Very true – they are a prime example of Hollywood's lack of imagination and ambition, turning to well-known franchise names, or 'brands', instead of taking a risk. That's why I appreciate films such as
Transcendence,
Interstellar,
Inception,
Under the Skin and
Ex Machina so much.
Sunshine would also fit into that list because it's one of those which doesn't treat the audience as a group of brainless popcorn munchers, regarding them as intelligent, sentient beings.
