An extended climax was filmed where Lee recovers from the rock thrown at him by Widmark but explodes into fire as he crosses the circle in pursuit. Shame this no longer exists as it would have made a far better ending.
According to a Hammer book Widmark caused so many problems on the set that they had Cliff Robertson on standby in case he walked off.
