I think I would have enjoyed it a lot more if I hadn't already read the book(s). I don't know what but whoever wrote the script took a lot of liberties with the story and altered a lot of the narrative. That aforementioned scene in Blackpool isn't even part of the book series. I can understand that they wanted to make a nice tidy stand-alone film and not be bothered with a trilogy though.
I only saw it once at the cinema so I think a re-watch is needed at some point soon, when I can pick it up for around a fiver on blu.
