The secret backstory of Doctor Who's Daleks is about to be revealed
We'll finally get to know more about the iconic baddies.

They are one of the most iconic series of characters on TV, period – but how much we actually know about the Daleks' background is questionable.

A new book aims to exterminate rumours and clear up any loose ends by explaining their origin in more detail than ever – and the book is fittingly titled Dalek.

The illustrated volume shows their creation by Davros, as well as the Thousand-Year War on Skaro between the Thals and the Kaleds, according to the Radio Times.

It will also show their near-destruction during the Time War, alongside plenty of images of battles throughout time.

Dalek comes after a crowdfunded film called The Undiscovered Daleks hit a wall following apparent disputes over copyright and other issues. However, director Victor Lewis-Smith is still hoping it will get off the ground eventually.

Meanwhile, anticipation is already building for the Doctor Who Christmas special as it will be the first glimpse of the new Doctor – as well as the last of Peter Capaldi's 12.

Yet the identity of 13 is such a closely-guarded secret that even the special's director doesn't know who he/she is.

Rachel Talalay tweeted this week that she has "no knowledge of 13" and "no idea about [series] 11".

However, Capaldi has reportedly wrapped filming, which presumably includes the much-anticipated regeneration scene.
