I had been thru my phase of listening to bands that were simplistic, raw and noisy but now I prefer to listen to rock bands that are more complex and thoughtful

I'm all for evolution which is what I was getting at in my reply up there ^^^ but the point I've highlighted here, that's a pretty broad brush you're tarring metal with. There is plenty of
complex and thoughtful music in the heavier spectrum. Probably influenced by a lot of the bands which you like and have 'evolved into'. It's not all 'play as fast and loud as you can' like it was in the 80's.
