Probably a little premature to post this but made a start on Mick Wall’s Metallica biog last night and am quite enjoying it. Worth saying that I’ve only a rudimentary knowledge of Metallica, which extends to their albums. I was always a Slayer guy but mostly I skipped over the Thrash scene when an older guy on the street made me a copy of Napalm Death’s debut – “
Forget that Iron Maiden shit… listen to this!” No going back after that. 25 years later I find myself listening to
Kill ‘Em All this morning and it’s not bad at all I must say. I still prefer
Show No Mercy if we’re comparing album for album – Slayer, even in this early incarnation have a more powerful Wagnerian sweep to their songs, but the Metallica album has a bite I wasn’t quite expecting…
