It's times like this when I wish I still had access to a television set

"QUICK GET ON THE TELLING BONE EVERYONE!

Starting Saturday 2 November at 3:30pm on Talking Pictures TV and continuing every Sat / Sun at 3:30pm CATWEAZLE (1970-72) created by Richard Carpenter.

The popular and much loved children’s television series Catweazle first appeared on our screens in 1970. Geoffrey Bayldon was perfectly cast as the eccentric 11th Century wizard who accidentally travels through time to 1969 England. Here he befriends a red-headed boy, Edward Bennett – nicknamed ‘Carrot’ – who tries to help him return to his own time, whilst hiding him from his father. Catweazle hides out in an old water tower that he calls Castle Saburac, with his ‘familiar,’ a toad called Touchwood.

The wizard sees much of our modern world as forms of magic – he calls the telephone, the ‘telling-bone’ and electricity is christened as ‘elek-trickery.’

The series – which lasted for 26 episodes over 2 series – also saw several famous names making guest appearances including Hattie Jacques, Peter Butterworth, Elspet Grey, John Junkin, Bill Owen and Peter Sallis, to name a mere handful."
