Default Busting (1974)

Busting.(1975)
Buddy cop movies were fairly plentiful in the mid 1970's right through to the heyday of the Lethal Weapon series back in the 1990's,and while Busting is a very entertaining entry in the genre, its only slightly beaten by the previous years Freebie And the Bean (1974) with Alan Arkin and James Caan, doing the whole bickering couple thing.Instead we have Michael Keneely (Elliott Gould),and Patrick Farrell (Robert Blake)as a pair of vice cop's looking to take down Carl Rizzo (Allen Garfield),a gangster who controls a myriad of vice's.Unfortunately for Gould and Blake ,Rizzo has friends in high places and the couple are unable to pin anything on him.Peter Hyams directs this excellent gritty police thriller, which see's Gould in excellent form and there is a great chemistry between him and Robert (Electra Glide in Blue (1973) Blake,as the two scruffy vice cops.My only critisism would a rather I'll advised fight in a gay bar, where there is some obvious stereotyping, but saying that there is a marvellous appearance from Antonio Fargas from Starsky and Hutch ,who tries to pick up Gould in the club. All in all a really entertaining cop thriller, that maybe not as funny or as zany as Freebie and the Bean (1974) but still a great 70s film.
