When two hoodlums show up in a small town asking about petrol station attendant Ole Anderson also known as Swede he is warned buy a co-worker but he doesn't seem phased. When they catch up with Swede they gun him down where he lay in his bed without even trying to resist.
Insurance investigator Jim Reardon takes it upon himself to investigate the murder which takes him down a road with plenty of twists and turns many faces and many motives but its the beautiful Kitty Collins (Ava Gardner) that seems to link them all together.
Another beautifully acted film not one weak performance from anyone. The suspense it kept up right from the start until the ending. A great journey from the Swedes beginnings as a champion boxer forced to retire after sustaining a bad injury and his decent into a life of crime a prison sentence the loss of love and his attempts to get her back and rekindle the life they once had. The path to happiness is never straight or without danger especially with a beautiful woman is involved.
