THE QUIET ONES. ( 2014 )

A professor and his students conduct various experiments on a young woman who appears to be possessed by some kind of demonic force.
This film at the outset seemed to tick all the boxes for me - the Hammer name, spooky story and the 70s setting. However, apart from a couple of songs on the radio at the beginning of the film, there is little use of the Seventies setting. For a lot of the time, it could be set in any era to be honest.
Although quite creepy in places, it just didn’t seem to hit the mark for me. Worth a watch, but not something to return to. Shame.

BORN FOR HELL. ( 1976 )

From a film supposedly set in the 70s, to one which actually was set ( and filmed ) in that decade, interestingly set against the backdrop of the Troubles in N Ireland.
A distinctly troubled Vietnam war veteran lands in Belfast and sets about infiltrating and murdering a group of student nurses.
The claustrophobic setting of the nurses’ house helps to give a grimy feel to this one, which could have been much more exploitative than it is, particularly considering the cast of Euro starlets here.
The ‘Belfast’ accents are all over the shop - explained in one of the excellent extras as, although filming was done in Belfast, most of the location filming was done in Dublin. Good release of a rarely seen film from Severin.
