I'd also argue this for Tim Burton's version of Batman. The gothic take and edgy violence earn it's stripes in the cult arena but it was also a huge world-wide boxoffice smash.
They are examples of where somehow (against the odds?) studios take a gamble on edgy, leftfield visions that subvert the commercial status quo. |
Yeah in a way it's no different from that most cultish of tv series Doctor Who.
13.31 million viewers watching Voyage of the Damned back in 2007 or a very respectable 6.35m watching the most recent Dalek story last New Years Day.
