Listened to all 17 songs on Red Hot Chili Peppers Unlimited Love album twice now.
It's clearly the Chili's but it's not a single style album from them ala the golden Californian pop rock of By the Way or Californication or the funk of their earlier albums, it's really a mixture of every type of Chili Pepper music from funk to hard rock to classy soul.
The songs really come to the fore with a second listen but what struck me initially was yet again what a superb guitar player John Frusciante is. For the majority of the first play through i found myself listening to his superb fret work, much of it is simply gorgeous. Flea too is on fine form, his bass lines often acting as lead guitar and powering the songs along. At times bass, drums and guitar seem to be playing different tunes and i don't mean that in a bad way because it all comes together so brilliantly.
I had a feeling about this album from hearing the singles as they came out. I'm pleased to say i wasn't wrong. Red Hot Chili Peppers - White Braids & Pillow Chair Unlimited Love (2022) |
