Dominion. 2005.

Father Merrin travels to Africa after abandoning his faith and uncovers a church buried and leads him to his first encounter with the demon Pazuzu.

The first prequel made to The Exorcist that was somehow rejected, re-written and directed by Renny Harlin after Paul Schrader was fired, this is the second time watching this version (prefer Exorcist: The Beginning). This version seems to focus on Merrin's doubt and faith about religion and god after the events in Holland where as The Beginning focuses more towards scares and horror of the story.

The acting in this version is not the greatest, the Nazi officer isn't really quite intimidating as much as the officers were back then. Not sure if that was deliberate so nobody reflects on what happened back then or poor choice in casting? There is some CGI effects used and does look a bit naff, the final confrontation could have been a little bit more better and possibly lasted longer than what it was. Think I will warm upto this version slowly.
