I mentioned this here before: China is cracking down on Hong Kong cinema - old and new. A recently restored print of Hard Boiled is missing almost 15-20 minutes due to excessive cuts. John Woo has returned to America to make films.
It's understandable as to why distributors are focusing on Hong Kong films - they want to secure them before they are lost forever.
Also, the fall of Harvey Weinstein means many Hong Kong films are now up for grabs.
