Stop or my Mom Will Shoot is his best movie:rofl:

First Blood is my fave.

The good films FAR outweigh the bad ones.
SLY,YOU'RE A LEGEND SIR.WE AT SHAMELESS SALUTE YOU.

Remember, you can VOTE FOR MORE THAN ONE.....;)

Pete 16th April 2009 07:05 PM

As muuch as i like Sly i'm more of an Arnie fan.

Them Rambo posters are class wayy better than the ones you see for actioners now.

smileysmile18 16th April 2009 07:42 PM

For my money Rambo: First Blood part 2 is the best action movie ever made. The action in that film is just immense, and it has my all time favourite Jerry Goldsmith score. So many other great films there though.

Peter Neal 16th April 2009 08:11 PM

The first and th fourth "Rambo" for me, plus "Cobra" for the ultimate 80's cheese-:popcorn:factor.
Performancewise, "Copland" was a pure joy to watch, because Sly really delivers the goods despite such heavy competition by the likes of DeNiro and Keitel.
I simply like most of the man's movies, nearly voted for "The Specialist" too....:)

Angel 16th April 2009 08:16 PM

Death Race 2000 is tremendous fun.

I especially liked the fight between Sly and Carradine.

vincenzo 16th April 2009 10:44 PM

Death Race 2000, followed by Copland.

The Reaper Man@Cult Labs 16th April 2009 10:50 PM

Rocky,First Blood and Copland. Can't beat a good Stallone actioner when the eyes get weary of blood and guts.....:D

The Reaper Man@Cult Labs 16th April 2009 10:51 PM

Now here's a question,STALLONE or SCHWARZENEGGER? Who's king of the action flick?

Pete 16th April 2009 10:53 PM

Do i feel a poll coming on?

The Reaper Man@Cult Labs 16th April 2009 10:56 PM

Go for it-one definitive answer-no easy 'I like 'em both.' Loopo.....;)

DeadAlive 17th April 2009 09:21 AM

"Copland" followed by "Cliffhanger".

bedorca 18th April 2009 07:27 AM

As a kid, I copied Stallone and Russell's prison escape leap in the rain in Tango and Cash and ended up nearly losing my left arm!!!

Oh the innocence of youth

The Reaper Man@Cult Labs 23rd February 2012 07:20 PM

This thread was started before The Expendables,so if that's your fave, then say so!:)

Stephen@Cult Labs 23rd February 2012 07:31 PM

Anyone seen the pics from Walter Hill's new movie Bullet To The Head, with Stallone? Probably just the pic and the haircut, but he looks about 20 years younger, almost like he did around the time of Demolition Man.

Nordicdusk 23rd February 2012 07:39 PM

First Blood i love all the Rambo movies but this was the very first Rambo movie i seen as a kid from that day on it was love ;)

Gojirosan 23rd February 2012 07:55 PM

Surprised I could find four to vote for on that list! Nighthawks is very good, the first Rocky iconic, Demolition Man surprising witty and Death Race 2000 wonderful. I've never seen Copland, but only heard good things.

He's not really been in that much decent stuff considering the lengthy career he has had.

You should really take a look at Copland great cast and great performance by Stallone.

Paul@TheOverlook 23rd February 2012 08:16 PM

I love Stallone films, grew up watching them, and he's most definitely my favourite of the 80s action stars by far. Before it all went a bit wrong late 90s I can honestly say that there was not one of his films that I didn't enjoy to some degree apart from the aforementioned shitefest starring opposite one of the Golden Girls. I even like his Get Carter remake, just D-Tox and Driven that I really didn't like.

Favourites are First Blood, Rocky and Copland, Night Hawks. Love many others but have never seen Victory or FIST.

I ended up working on one of his films as a runner when I was 19. It's true what they say about never meeting your heroes...

Stephen@Cult Labs 23rd February 2012 08:32 PM

I think Get Carter gets a lot of flack simply because it's a remake of one of the best British ganster films ever made. I personally like it a lot. Hell, I even like D-Tox (Eye See You).

Stephen@Cult Labs 23rd February 2012 08:38 PM

Damn you Paul, now I've had to get my Get Carter dvd and give it a spin!

Paul@TheOverlook 23rd February 2012 10:08 PM

I agree completely about Carter.

Demdike@Cult Labs 23rd February 2012 10:25 PM

I can't believe i clicked "vote" before i ticked Escape to Victory.

An absolutely brilliant piece of escapism (pardon my pun), guaranteed to make you cheer when Von Sydow begins to applaud the Allies team.

Vampix 23rd February 2012 10:35 PM

I personally prefer Sly to Arnie.First Blood is an action classic but I challenge anyone to understand Sly's rambling speech at the end of the film without subtitles. :D

There was no way the film would get anything but a negative response, no matter how good it was.

Yep, written-off as soon as it was announced.

That's almost exactly what Leonard Maltin wrote about Sly's final monologue:

"A kewpie doll to anyone who can understand more than three words of Sly's final monologue."

I always had the suspicion that Maltin was a pretty arrogant attention-seeker - this sentence (and his * 1/2 - rating of First Blood) confirmed my opinion.

I think that Sly's performance in First Blood is outstanding, and I distinctly include this monologue. He's a much better actor than quite a few Academy Award winners (Adrien Brody and Dustin Hoffman come to mind).

As for First Blood: I think this is the best movie dealing with America's Vietnam trauma. Forget about crazy and lengthy flicks like The Deer Hunter or pretentious films like Born on the Fourth of July. This movie shows where America lost the war (at least to a great extent) - at home, among its very own people. :( Sorry for so much politics, but as a future history teacher I had to say that.

Please don't take it personally, Vampix - it's more a rant about Maltin and strange Academy Award decisions. ;) :tea:

Greetings!

Paul@TheOverlook 24th February 2012 09:31 AM

As much as I like Stallone and rate him as an actor in some of his films I'd definitely disagree with you about him being better than Hoffman, PV.

Yes, I slightly exaggerated. Maybe it's because Stallone stars in more movies that I like than Hoffman - although the latter was really good in Straw Dogs. His acting doesn't deserve an Academy Award, though - as he's deffo not up there with the likes of Charles Laughton, Laurence Olivier, or Lionel Barrymore. He shares that fate with quite a few other AA winners. ;)

Sorry, I know this isn't the Academy Award thread. :focus:

Greetings!

Susan Foreman 24th February 2012 09:43 AM

Very much off topic, but there was talk years ago of Stallone and Arnie appearing in a re-make of 'Some Like It Hot'

That would have been something to see!

I don't take it personally, First Blood is one of my favourite action flicks.I'm not trying to be snobbish when I say I can't understand Sly's speech at the end of the film, it's just that I genuinely can't!

Most probably my fave slice of Sly and i love these 'worm that turns' films where the protagonist never looks for trouble but gets it from other sources and ultimately finishes what the antagonist started. FB works wonders with this scenario imo and you're behind John J. Rambo 100% when he fights back against those who wouldn't leave him alone.

"I coulda killed them all. I coulda killed you. If anyone's the law around here, it's me. Don't push it. Don't push it or i'll give you a war you won't believe. Let it go....let it go!"

Vampix 18th March 2012 01:08 PM

Yep, Sly looks in remarkable shape in that new pic, much better shape than Arnie. As well as First Blood, I've got a real liking for Cliffhanger, Demolition Man, and Rambo (2008).In fact, there's not too many of Sly's flicks that I don't enjoy.

pedromonkey 18th March 2012 01:23 PM

As Rocky 4 is one of my favourite films of all time i chose that one, but i'm just a Stallone Fan in general. Rambo, Demolition Man, Judge Dredd, Lock Up, Cobra, DeathRace 2000, the list goes on. I even enjoyed film Avenging Angelo which he made during his career slump.

Splatterdragon73 19th March 2012 05:43 AM

I'll have to try to catch Nighthawks on DVD sooner or later as i've never seen the film from start to finish and all i really recall about it is some of the cast, the director and the ending.:)

Baseball Fury 19th March 2012 09:09 AM

Copland and Rocky for his performances (both of which are incredible)

Demolition Man and Rambo (IV) for fun. I couldn't believe how good the latest Rambo was, I even saw it twice at the cinema!

The film's more violent (not to mention more profanity-packed.) than all three previous Rambo outings combined and all the better for it imo.
God bless Stallone for giving us an action movie that spits in the face of those who want the genre's output diluted to keep the PC brigade happy. Not on Sly's watch!;)
