Made after the zombie classic Dawn of the Dead, George A. Romero’s Knightriders is both clearly the work of the same director (there are lots of familiar faces from his other films) and a marked change of tone. There’s still plenty of action, but it takes the form of jousting by people wearing full medieval armour... while riding motorbikes.

Ed Harris, soon to become a major star, is the leader of a troupe of travelling entertainers trying to live their lives according to the ideals of King Arthur - no easy feat in Reagan’s America, where the outside world and its financial realities constantly encroach on their dreams.

With a memorably eccentric cast of characters (including make-up effects genius Tom Savini in a major role, and a cameo from novelist Stephen King) and a complex, nuanced script, Knightriders is Romero’s warmest and most personal film to date.

Special Features:
- High Definition Blu-ray (1080p) and Standard Definition DVD presentation
- Optional English SDH subtitles for the deaf and hard of hearing
- Audio commentary with George Romero, Tom Savini, John Amplas and Christine Romero
- The Genesis of a Legend – Star Ed Harris remembers his first leading role
- A Date with Destiny – Co-star Tom Savini reflects on Knightriders
- Medieval Maiden – An interview with actress Patricia Tallman
- Theatrical Trailer
- TV Spots
- Reversible sleeve featuring original and newly commissioned artwork by Nat Marsh
- Collector’s booklet featuring new writing on the film by author and critic Brad Stevens, an archival interview with Romero and a new interview with composer Donald Rubinstein, illustrated with original archive stills and posters

never seen it, look at the trailer and thought it looked crap, but a lot of people are post about how glad they are its getting a release, so might end up getting it, it is Romero, has Ed Harris who i think is a very underrated actor and Tom Savini which are all pluses for me

fuzzymctiger 23rd January 2013 12:36 PM

I thought that this would be my favourite announcment, then Motel Hell happened

Nosferatu@Cult Labs 23rd January 2013 12:38 PM

This is probably my third favourite George Romero film (behind Dawn and Day of the Dead) and one I've wanted on Blu-ray for ages, so it's a definite purchase.

Rik 23rd January 2013 01:01 PM

Here's the trailer for those unfamiliar with the film

Stephen@Cult Labs 23rd January 2013 05:51 PM

I really like that cover, but as always, I'll use the original artwork.

The Reaper Man@Cult Labs 23rd January 2013 05:56 PM

Yep another purchase.
I like Knightriders.

The Abyss and The Rock. other than those two he has been pretty lucky.

The Reaper Man@Cult Labs 23rd January 2013 06:01 PM

Ach The Abyss had it's moments back in the day!:)

The Rock?

I liked the abyss hoping it gets a blu ray release. But I suppose different strokes for different folks

Gojirosan 23rd January 2013 06:04 PM

I think they are both all-time turkeys. The Rock made my All Time Worst Ten, years ago! Really not my cup of Earl Gray!

I agree about The Rock (it's probably the best film Michael Bay has made, but that's not saying much), but The Abyss is a fine film.

Gojirosan 23rd January 2013 06:08 PM

Well, I knew The Rock had its admirers, but you may colour me surprised by the love for The Abyss. :)

Rik 23rd January 2013 06:13 PM

I like the Rock, watched it last week in fact and I like The Abyss, but not enough to own it and seeing as it's on Film4 regularly, I have no need to

trebor8273 23rd January 2013 06:17 PM

Think it's Connery who makes the rock a good movie, with anyone else would of been the same crap as most Michael Bays other films.

The Reaper Man@Cult Labs 23rd January 2013 06:24 PM

Certainly ain't for Cage's acting range!

Nah, that award goes to his performance in the Wicker Man remake :fear:

Gojirosan 23rd January 2013 06:27 PM

I'm not much of a fan of Connery, so that maybe why it seems like just another boring Michael Bay action flick to me.

Not even bothered to watch it, it would of been bad without him, but with him I can imagine it was a travesty of a movie, how that man gets work is one of the mysteries of the universe

Buboven 23rd January 2013 06:48 PM

Never seen this but the trailer has me intrigued.

Dave Boy 23rd January 2013 06:52 PM

Count me in for this one !

Andra Jai 23rd January 2013 07:25 PM

I've never seen this but having just watched the trailer it looks a bit weird

buggenhagen 23rd January 2013 07:53 PM

Nice to see this getting a blu release. Last time I saw it was when it screened on Moviedrome - shows how long ago it was! Actually, a nice added extra would have been Alex Cox's Moviedrome intro from back then:

Bobogolgo13 23rd January 2013 08:30 PM

I would REALLY love to have this one. But it IS Arrow....I'll wait for reviews.....hopefully ZFE was an indication of where they are heading.....no tinkering with detail/grain.....and this'll be an instant purchase for me.

Slippery Jack 23rd January 2013 08:36 PM

Wow, I was only saying the other day how I'd never seen this. More great news :woot: . . .

fuzzymctiger 24th January 2013 06:28 AM

Ooh, words coming out that Shout Factory have this in the US, TBC weathers its Shout or Scream

Rik 24th January 2013 06:35 AM

Yeah I heard that, I know which version I'll be getting

I too saw this on Moviedrome and thought it terrible. However, over the years my tastes have changed and I'm quite looking forward to seeing it again as self indulgent tripe, er, I mean singular artistic vision is now something I like. I'm not a fan of Romero but do find his brief trips away from the living dead interesting and more than likely show the viewer the film maker Romero has always wanted to be.

Heratic! Burn him! :mob:

I'm really looking forward to this release. Love me a bit of Knightriders.

trebor8273 4th February 2013 09:30 AM

just noticed on arrows facebook that knightriders is £9.99 to preorder for today to celebrate George Romero birthday, do arrow take money straight away?

Rik 4th February 2013 09:30 AM

Seeing as it's George A Romero's birthday today, this is up for pre-order direct from Arrow for £9.99, couldn't resist for that price despite saying I wouldn't pre-order until reviews came in

George Romero's Knightriders

fuzzymctiger 4th February 2013 09:32 AM

THAT'S STILL A MIGHTY GOOD DEAL

Edgeworth 4th February 2013 10:02 AM

Ordered! Never seen the film so should be worth £10. I hope the other directors have birthdays soon, I want more cheap pre-orders.
