“It takes all kinds of critters to make Farmer Vincent fritters!” cackle the brother-and-sister team behind the finest smoked meats in the county. They also run the friendly Motel Hello (the ‘o’ in the neon sign sometimes goes on the blink), and no matter how many times you’ve seen Psycho or The Texas Chain Saw Massacre, you can be sure that everything will be perfectly above board here as Vincent’s brother Bruce is the local sheriff.

Western veteran Rory Calhoun gives a lipsmackingly demented performance as Farmer Vincent, whose twinkling bonhomie conceals a deeply depraved secret.

Directed by Kevin Connor (maker of much-loved British genre classics The Land That Time Forgot and Warlords of Atlantis) and with legendary DJ Wolfman Jack as a fire-and-brimstone TV preacher, this is a gleefully twisted horror-comedy that climaxes with a showstopping chainsaw duel.

Special Features:
- High Definition Blu-ray (1080p) and Standard Definition DVD presentation of the film
- Optional English SDH subtitles for the deaf and hard of hearing
- Audio commentary with director Kevin Connor moderated by Calum Waddell
- Another Head on the Chopping Block: Interview with star Paul Linke
- From Glamour to Gore: Interview with co-star, and former Playboy Playmate, Rosanne Katon
- Ida, Be Thy Name: A look back at Motel Hell’s frightful female protagonist Ida Smith – and the secrets of creating a convincing slasher siren, with Scream Queens Elissa Dowling and Chantelle Albers, genre commentator Staci Layne Wilson and critic Shelagh Rowan-Legg
- Back to the Backwoods: Director Dave Parker (The Hills Run Red) speaks about the importance of Motel Hell
- Original Trailer
- Reversible sleeve featuring original and newly commissioned artwork by Jeff Zornow
- Collector’s booklet featuring new writing on the film by Kim Newman, illustrated with original archive stills and posters

I AM SO EXCITED FOR THIS ONE

Rik 23rd January 2013 12:32 PM

Me too, it's such a daft, fun film. I hope they can release it's MGM R1 DVD partner Deranged too

Colin654 23rd January 2013 12:32 PM

The artwork is amazing! C

trebor8273 23rd January 2013 12:36 PM

still remember watching this when i was about ten and the guy with the pig head mask scared the crap out of me had nightmares for weeks, never seen it since but cant wait too see it again

BAKA 23rd January 2013 12:40 PM

Can't wait for this. I actually love the artwork too, despite being very critical of all of Zornow's Arrow output (and his SF output). The tone suits the film, it's dynamic, there's less of a feeling of various different things all plonked on. Cannot wait :)

Nosferatu@Cult Labs 23rd January 2013 12:41 PM

I have this on a double bill DVD with Deranged, so the upgrade to HD is a no-brainer. Such a wacky film and one I'll definitely buy – love the artwork.

Yes, an MGM deal! Now, do the Phibes films!

Rik 23rd January 2013 01:04 PM

Here's the trailer for this crazy film

That's actually my favourite part of the announcment. With this, Foxy Brown and Blow Out, I'm guessing they got an mgm deal. And MGM have a LOT of very good titles asking for an upgrade.

Gojirosan 23rd January 2013 01:56 PM

Shame about the terrible artwork, but who cares when the film is being released at all! A lovely ridiculous bit of comedy.

the blob 23rd January 2013 03:04 PM

I actually think that art is quite good for it.

The character laid down is truly shite, but the rest is pretty good.

Susan Foreman 23rd January 2013 03:50 PM

I'm being driven to madness here!

Back in the 80's/early 90's, there was a rock band who used the line 'It takes all kinds of critters, to make Farmer Vincent's fritters', and I cannot remember who they were, and what the song was!

Please help me, someone!!!!!

Justin101 23rd January 2013 04:11 PM

I've never even heard of this film but people seem to be excited about it, I'm curious now...

Deranged would be good, but don't license the MGM print, it's cut. If Arrow are going to do it, then do it properly and get an uncut master.

Motel Hell is great - but I'm a sucker for 80's horror, especially slashers.

Good point, I have the uncut German 30th Anniversary edition as well as the MGM double bill, needless to say I only watch the uncut version

Or could it be this? There's loads of songs called Motel Hell! LOL! But this one is most definitely a tribute to the film...

Yeah Motel Hell is one of the best films from the eighties.
Highly enjoyable.

Criterion7 23rd January 2013 05:40 PM

Love this film. Was great seeing a nod to it in the new Texas Chainsaw film. This is a must buy for me.

plasterface 23rd January 2013 05:49 PM

Thanks for the suggestions, but it was neither of those

Ii would have been something that I had in my collection at the time, and I never had anything by those bands

I think they were more mainstream metal, rather than hardcore

The Reaper Man@Cult Labs 23rd January 2013 05:59 PM

Now.
How about THE HOUSE WHERE EVIL DWELLS to go with it?

Prince_Vajda 23rd January 2013 06:07 PM

Never seen this. Sounds good, though. Is it?

As a matter of fact - both.

Both entertaining!

Easily Motel Hell of the two,but House has the never less than lovely talents of Ms.Susan George.;)

Paul@TheOverlook 23rd January 2013 08:07 PM

It's not a very nice Susan George though, is it? She aged really badly by the early 1980s. I couldn't believe how old she looked in ENTER THE NINJA.

I've not seen MOTEL HELL or HOUSE WHERE EVIL DWELL despite owning both on DVD for years! :D

The Reaper Man@Cult Labs 23rd January 2013 08:08 PM

Still wouldn't kick her out of bed for farting!

HA! :D There's nothing wrong and we all age but I was shocked to see how much she'd changed in the space of ten years, especially when you consider she was still very young in the early 1980s.

Slippery Jack 23rd January 2013 08:42 PM

Top artwork on this one. A big improvement since his Pieces cover  . . .

Yeah. That's what Eastenders does to people mate.

Demdike@Cult Labs 23rd January 2013 10:33 PM

I'm probably on my own when i say i prefer House Where Evil Dwells to Motel Hell any day of the week. :makelikeatree:

How about not.

Seriously, that's one bad film - although seeing Doug McClure doing some faux Kung Fu is worth the admission price alone. :D

The search continues, then. I'll find it, just bear with me. ;)
