Didn't even know that Anthony De Longis was in this. I remember the 1st film I saw him in (or heard to be more precise), Starchaser: The Legend Of Orin.. |

It's way past tomorrow. :D A tiny preview cover is visible at Arrows HP but I'd be glad to get a bigger cover artwork to stare at for hours. 8) BTW: Already preordered at Amazon! |
And here indeed is a better quality image to stare at and it's all-new artwork! http://i237.photobucket.com/albums/f...de13DLORES.jpg How cool is the gold lettering? This new design is courtesy of Thedudedesigns.blogspot.com |
Now that is awesome, about time we start to get to see classic looking VHS artwork on releases like this. Brilliant! :D |
Very cool. It'll be a hard choice between this and the original poster. Who did the artwork Alamr? |
 maybe if I read posts, I wouldn't ask silly questions! |
I feel like I've been using the word 'awesome' far too much on this site. So, that artwork is... FREAKIN' AWESOME! I luv it! It really does capture the VHS vibe. And just check out how cool the other pics on that blog are. |
And even more awesome, if you click on the poster on the site, you get a mega-hi-res version, which I'm now displaying as my desktop background. :D |
Oooh very nice Stevoj. VERY nice indeed. |
That's some sweet artwork! Who's behind it? |

So Almar is this going to be the premiere release for the Damage Depot? |
What aspect ratio will this be presented in? Will this utilise the same transfer as used on the British Heroes Box Set from Arrow? |
This'll be the same transfer - this is more of a fun release - if every title becomes a magnum opus we'll end up with a handful every year. And as for Damage Depot well that needs some work work in building it up - I have thoughts but have to see if there's an appetite for it all. |
So we're looking at a 4:3 full frame transfer Almar? Does that mean it is a pan and scan presentation or is it open matte? |

I'm sure that i caught a TV screening of either JL or Force Five a few years back. I do think it may have been the former and if i'm right from what i recall the film wasn't up to much imo. So i'm truly in two minds as to whether or not i'll be picking up JL.:) |
so this isn't widescreen? may as well keep my austarlian release. Full frame transfers in 2010 are not on imo. |

I must admit this release doesn't appeal to me at all.I'd probably watch a film like this if it appeared on TV but I don't think I'll be buying it, even if it does have Chris Lee & Donald Pleasence in it. |

For some strange reason JL keeps reminding me of early Chuck Norris outing An Eye For An Eye. Perhaps because old pro Christopher Lee stars in both films. I think JL's attractive DVD cover may possibly hide a mediocre movie imo.:) |
Superb! Lee and Pleasance-excellent. Can't go wrong with Mrs Ringo either though....;) Can't beat some good action. |

I also kind of liked the fact that "Arrow was bringing back the art of horror" as it felt that as a horror fan I was getting something exclusive, and was being rewarded for buying films which haven't been Blockbusters or commercially successfull. Just my opinion though:fear: |

If the company goes to the same impressive lengths with any and all potential action releases then i'll be happy to buy these titles providing it's a film i enjoy. But i have to admit based on what i remember about JL i just can't get excited about this movie coming out on DVD. That said, if the above Joe Lewis actioner comes down in price sooner or later i may have a rethink and give JL a go. Only time will tell i guess.:) |
Here's the press release: THREE BOND VILLAINS, ONE BOND GIRL AND A MARTIAL ARTS LEGEND. Directed by Academy Award winner and veteran director of numerous hit TV series, Ernest Pintoff, (Knots Landing; Hawaii Five-O; Kojak) and starring three former Bond villains (Christopher ‘Scaramanga’ Lee, Donald ‘Blofeld’ Pleasence and Joseph ‘Dr. No’ Wiseman), a former Bond girl (Barbara Bach) and legendary American kickboxer, karate fighter and martial artist Joe Lewis as the eponymous hero, Jaguar Lives! is a star-studded, action-packed, globe-hopping spy thriller that owes as much to the kung fu movies of the 1970s as it does to the spy novels of Ian Fleming and their movie adaptations. Joe Lewis stars as Jonathan Cross, aka Jaguar, a recently retired secret agent who is persuaded to take on one last assignment. His mission: to smash a global drug cartel rumoured to involve the people believed to be responsible for the disappearance and possible murder of his former partner. Jaguar’s plans to infiltrate the international network of pushers and dealers running the cartel and ultimately eliminate the evil mastermind heading the operation bring him into contact with some of the world’s most powerful and dangerous criminal figures, including a crazed dictator-like General, a ruthless businesswoman with deadly connections and a villainous crime lord and his ninja bodyguards. Co-starring John Huston (Chinatown; Casino Royale), Capucine (the Pink Panther movies) and Sally Faulkner (Prey; Vampyres) and packed with massive explosions, fast cars, exotic locations, beautiful women and Lewis’s trademark martial arts moves, Jaguar Lives! is a cult classic from the golden age of over-the-top action movies. Jaguar Lives! will be released on DVD (£15.99) by Arrow Video on 6th September 2010. Special Features include: interview with star Joe Lewis; poster art and stills gallery; Joe Lewis and Bruce Lee gallery; original trailer; reversible sleeve art; 28-page booklet on Joe Lewis and Jaguar Lives! written by Andrew Staton and Anthony DeLongis. Check out this posted on the CULT LABS BLOG |

Even the wrinkles on the trousers are the same as in the cover of the game.... |
JAGUAR LIVES in full screen? The OAR of this film is 1.85:1 . Too bad if the dvd is in full screen or even non-anamorphic widescreen  I've only watched the trailer at the cinema back then. This film is in the same vein as FORCE FIVE (1981), KILL OR BE KILLED (James Ryan, 1980) and KILL AND KILL AGAIN (1981). |

I zoomed both images and the hair, the face, the muscles, the wrinkles is identical in both pictures. They have changed some colors and the clothes. Talking about copyright... talking about ideas... talking about photoshop. The cover is quite cool and in the vein of the 80s vhs art but at least all the covers from the other Arrow titles were original. |
|
It's astonishing how well the artwork has actually captured the detail of the original still image. Pretty much perfect imo. |

Its my style really, I'm a graphic artist and like allot of the old poster art of the 60's/70's i work with photos (also like Stephen Romanos more recent work in his book shock festival, check it out brilliant book if you can find it and like retro video art!), i myself really love that style of trashy video film poster art i collect old precert Videos mainly for the packaging... its what first got me into graphic design, So after years in working various design agencies i started going back to the thing i loved exploring design as pop art almost combining photography, illustration and graphics. Now from that i ive started doing what i have a passion for at last!!. I'm not a fantasy artist like Rick Melton, Love his paintings but I'm a different side of the coin really and aiming for a different vibe. So hope you can dig it too !!! Also hopefully its the start of a trend, would be great seeing more and more illustration coming back to film, avoiding travesties like the new Minority Report bluRay DVD cover (google it... VERY bizarre cover of... well i guess its Tom Cruise's face!!) i personally blame marketing! (no offence to any marketing dudes out there!!) I've worked in film and games industries and allot of the problems you run into these days with cover art is its worked around what a marketing person feels with no design background rather than designs or illustrators. I guess budgets get bigger and people get scared to step outside the box. Its been great Working with Arrow Video, very refreshing! its nice to meet people who do actually 'get it' and have more of a passion for the product than the usual sterile marketing check list.... Rant over!!! But this is my first cover I've done for Arrow (there's a second one in the wings!!) and all in all the feed backs been great from you guys!! so thanks for that and really nice to hear! and if you like my stuff do check out my blog and leave a comment if you fancy it. So Cheers for now... T. |

I went to see Back to the Future on the big screen last night and in the lobby they had big BTTF standees and I was just staring and staring at how vibrant and wonderful and cool that artwork was - it radiates excitement! |
Yeah they have just made a new documentray on Drew Struzan who did Back to the Future, starwars, Indian Jones... you name it really! he did most of the artwork for the 80's movies! 'Drew: The Man Behind the Poster' Also like i said do look up stephen romano's Shock Festival book (theres also a DVD)... and my personal bible is Shock Horror! - Astounding Artwork from the Video Nasty Era! |
