DARIO ARGENTO: THE NEO GIALLO COLLECTION

http://i1085.photobucket.com/albums/...eoGiallo2D.jpg

Inside the mind of Argento...

Sit back, relax and prepare to be thrilled, frightened and horrified by the four latter day Dario Argento classics contained within The Neo-Giallo Collection.

Baroque excess and eyelid piercing horror spill from the screen in Opera, Argento’s gory love song to the classical stage, when a young singer is stalked by a homicidal maniac, hell bent of murdering her associates so he can claim her for himself!

A police woman on the trial of depraved and sadistic rapist is plunged into a nightmare in The Stendhal Syndrome. She’s afflicted with a mental condition that causes her to hallucinate and pass out in the presence of art. When her prey leads her to a museum packed with antiquities, she becomes trapped in a psychedelic nightmare by her psychopathic nemesis.

Argento recaptures the magic of classic Giallo once more in Sleepless, a blood splattered tale of an aging detective and a young amateur sleuth on the trail of a serial killer whose has started to slay again after laying dormant for 17 years. Can the rookie cop and his elderly mentor catch the predator and put an end to his reign of terror?

When a sick-minded murderer uses the internet to display his brutality and goad the Rome police, it’s up to a British Interpol agent and a young policewoman to capture a deranged madman who’s dubbed himself The Card Player. Soon, he’s taunting the police and challenging them to a game of video poker. The stakes? Only the life of his next victim...

I don't have any of these releases, so I may be picking up this box.

trench 24th March 2011 02:47 PM

Nice. I have them all in various other releases, but I'd be interested to know if Arrow has any plans to release these on Blu-Ray at any point in the foreseeable future. If not, I may have to pick this up.

Phats 24th March 2011 03:12 PM

Is there anything extra in this which isn't in the individual releases of the DVDs? I already have them all in their singular releases so wouldn't need to opt for this but it's a good idea and something I would have probably bought if I'd known it was coming out a few months back, holding out on buying them individually.

Definitely curious as well. I've been eyeing Stendhal Syndrome on Blu already, and the only thing really holding me back is the possibility of Arrow releasing it. I want to pick up Sleepless as well, as the version in the US is pretty awful.

Griff 24th March 2011 03:25 PM

I've been looking to upgrade these, I'm in agreeance with the above post though...I wn't bother getting this if there's blu rays in the forseable future..and by the looks of the looks of things I take it these will be seperate meaning that you can (sadly enough) put them in chronological order for my precious Argento collection.

How does the 9 artwork sleeves work? Is it the 4x2 reversible sleeves you get in the original releases plus the new one that combines them as in the original post?

dream demon 25th March 2011 01:41 AM

Any clues as to what the packaging will be like? Will it just be the four previous releases in an outer slipcase, or is there something new in the works?

Nosferatu@Cult Labs 25th March 2011 04:34 PM

For those of you who like me, already own the four individual titles, you can still buy the box set, with its exclusive artwork, to store them in.

That's a nice idea - I may just do that!

trench 25th March 2011 04:51 PM

That's possibly one of the most bizarre items of merchandise I've ever seen.

That's just what I was planning to do as I really want that case but didn't see the mileage in owning two copies of each DVD!

robertzombie 25th March 2011 05:45 PM

£7 for a box!

Just seen the pictures of the packaging on the Facebook and I'm sold :woot: .

I like the idea of the box. True exploitation at it's finest however I have several old shoe boxes and access to a photocopier and will be producing "grey" copies for those who can't wait for the official release. Get them now before I put them on e-bay.;)

Stephen@Cult Labs 26th March 2011 11:14 AM

I don't see what's funny about Arrow selling a box to keep the dvds in. There's a guy called Paul Champagne who makes nice boxes to house dvds. If people will buy these sort of things, then why not.

trench 26th March 2011 12:22 PM

I don't see what's funny about it either. It's a sharp move by a company who knows that there are fans out there who will obsessively buy anything in order to keep their collection complete. Oh right, sorry, that is what I find funny about it.

Nosferatu@Cult Labs 26th March 2011 02:03 PM

Most horror/cult film distributors do something like that by releasing limited edition DVDs and BDs, or re-releasing titles with new artwork. Arrow are by no means alone in realising how obsessive some collectors can be -- and I'm one of them!

robertzombie 26th March 2011 02:16 PM

I actually think this release is a nice idea. I don't have any of these films so I'll be buying it. However, if I did already own them I certainly wouldn't pay £7 for a box...
Just my opinion.

re.form 26th March 2011 02:36 PM

I won't be buying the box. I can buy another DVD (or 2) for that amount. But each to their own...

trench 26th March 2011 02:37 PM

As I said previously I already own all of these titles, albeit not the Arrow releases. If a blu-ray release of these titles isn't forthcoming from other sources (I'm aware The Stendahl Syndrome is available on blu, but I'm not that big a fan of the movie) then I'll be picking up this box for sure. The box with the dvd's in it that is, not the empty one. Truth be told if I do buy it I'll be displaying each title separately, so if anyone's looking to buy a box.....

I think the funny remark was not regarding Arrow selling the box, but for the 7£ that are asked.

trench 27th March 2011 03:13 PM

I'm aware of that, sorry. Sarcasm doesn't translate well on the internet.

Demdike@Cult Labs 27th March 2011 05:15 PM

Considering the flak Arrow have had from some quarters in recent months, i've got to commend the person with the balls to say "I know, lets flog em an empty cardboard box for 7 quid"

robertzombie 27th March 2011 07:04 PM

Ouch! http://www.messentools.com/images/em...tas-cowboy.gif

Nosferatu@Cult Labs 27th March 2011 07:07 PM

This may come across like a message on a broken record but, if you don't like it, don't buy it!

the blob 27th March 2011 07:34 PM

I think the issue is that some people may like but don't want to pay £7 for it. I thought I'd check and it's actually £10 inc postage. I bought the Shameless Fulci box for £12 new and that included three dvd's with it!

Nosferatu@Cult Labs 27th March 2011 09:34 PM

It's actually £7 delivered as the Arrow site shows there is £3 postage but this disappears when you check out -- P&P is free in the UK.

the blob 27th March 2011 09:40 PM

Fair enough, my mistake on that part.

Nosferatu@Cult Labs 27th March 2011 09:42 PM

No problem. I first thought it was £3 delivery until it was explained to me that is removed when you check out and only applies to international orders.

Amertume 28th March 2011 12:23 AM

Hmm oh well... I really dunno what's that giallo about The Card Player and the Stendhal Syndrome?? :D

I'm not too sure about this particular release, but I prolly would buy it if the front cover artwork of the box would have skipped TSS's inferior artwork.

Bobz 9th April 2011 03:40 AM

I have never seen any of these Argento movies, so this accouncement was a welcome surprise to me and I will be buying it when I can afford it.

I just want to be sure of one thing: everything previously contained in the individual releases is included, right? I'm assuming its the exact same dvds housed in a new box?

Regards,
Bobby.

Edited for a god-awful typo :D

Nosferatu@Cult Labs 9th April 2011 11:20 AM

That's my understanding, yes. These should be the exact same discs only in a new slipcase with exclusive artwork, which should be perfect for you.

I'm afraid not. As I'm sure you're aware, Arrow is a company with limited resources and, though the format is several years old, committing to a Blu-ray release is extremely expensive. The decision was made that, as these titles were already released on DVD and not everyone owns them, a box set of the original DVD releases would be the most successful option.

In all likelihood, I'll just buy the box and use it to store the DVDs I really have.
