Savage Streets – The DVD Specs

Brenda’s got a switchblade and she knows how to use it...

http://i1085.photobucket.com/albums/...-DVD_72dpi.jpg

See Linda Blair (The Exorcist) take bloody revenge on a gang of low down dirty street punks in Savage Streets, a brutal journey into rape, violence, switchblades and bear traps.

When Brenda (Blair) and her all-girl gang of tough talking chicks, The Satins, refuse to party with a car full of local drug pushers called The Scars, the girls think nothing of it, but they didn’t reckon on the bruised ego of Jake and his feral pack of no good thugs. Targeting Brenda’s deaf sister, they invade the school and savage her, leaving her on the critical list.

Now Brenda must scour the streets in search of crossbow vengeance in a dangerous B-movie classic that’s the perfect antidote to 80s high school flicks.

Hmm... got some questions about this dvd:

Will it be a double disc-presentation?
Any subtitles?
Four artwork sleeve options?
Slipcase or regular keepcase?

I think I can answer three of those questions. 1 disc, regular keepcase and 2 sleeve options (unless Arrow change their mind and say it's now 4 panels). I'm sure Nosferatu will be able to find out if there are any subtitle

Thanx stephen. :)

By the way, will the movie itself actually be 93 minutes as said in the first post?
Almost sounds like a NTSC conversion to me (or will it be in PAL?).

Nosferatu@Cult Labs 1st May 2011 09:02 PM

This is a brand new PAL transfer taken from a new encoding of the only print available to Arrow.

Did Arrow have trouble finding decent, usable elements to master from, then?

well considering they are a small company with a niche market getting good quality masters will not be easy for cheap.

My ONLY gripe with Arrow is the use of EE and DNR on thier Blu releases.
Not wanting to start this discussion but thats just my views :)

My understanding from different US sources is that the original master (the one used for releases in the last couple of years) was done in SD, not HD. Also per one of the US sources' knowledge, this may be the source that Arrow used for their PAL transfer. The elements are suitable for a HD remaster, but no -- there's no HD master available right now that they can create a PAL master from (assuming Arrow did use the same master the US sources are referring to). But I'm no insider, I've just had a couple discussions with some people related to past SAVAGE STREETS work. And I'm not giving an answer for Arrow -- I do not 100% know what the full answer is at this point, I want to be wholly clear on that.

No, there was an available PAL digibeta from which Arrow were able to make a new encoding.

Daemonia 2nd May 2011 11:35 AM

Thanks for the replies, guys. I wasn't trying to be contentious, it's just that Nos's post made it sound as if Arrow could only get hold of sub-standard materials to work with. Sorry for any misunderstanding. I'm sure it will look and sound great, it's a shame no BD will be forthcoming but I understand why that is.

Nosferatu@Cult Labs 2nd May 2011 03:31 PM

It's no bother -- we try to be as open as possible when it comes to what is available and why decisions are made. That's what makes this forum such a valuable resource and why the interaction between users here and Arrow/Shameless is practically unique.

I've resisted watching the temptation of Ms Blair's 'charms' until this version is released!

Cherie? Do you have a video we should know about?

That's Mrs Blair.....;)

Just read that the upcoming Code Red dvd will include the commentary from the BCI release, but that the BCI commentary was edited (for legal reasons?) and will now be presented uncut. Will Arrow be priving this uncut commentary, or the original version?

That's a very good question -- I'll add it to my list for Monday.

Stephen@Cult Labs 7th May 2011 04:40 PM

Cheers Nos. I really need to stop posting on here with my phone. Always making spelling mistakes!

I wouldn't know anything about Tapatalk on any phone as my contract doesn't have Internet access, just unlimited texts and 300 minutes per month.

Spelling mistake or not, I knew what you meant!

bgart13 7th May 2011 07:32 PM

Hate to be a nudge, but it sounds like the rights owner of SAVAGE STREETS put in the contract that the Arrow disc is supposed to be r2, not r0. What happened with this?

Probably to do with the fact that Code Red just got the rights to re-release it in the US.

That's the first I've heard, but it's properly for the reasons Stephen mentioned above.

bgart13 7th May 2011 07:38 PM

Does that mean the Arrow disc will be r2 now?

I'm not sure, but it's something on my list for tomorrow. I'll let you know the answer as and when I do.

bgart13 7th May 2011 09:07 PM

Thanks, Nos! Don't you guys get a day off, heh heh?

Amertume 7th May 2011 10:21 PM

Please, also check: ;)
1. if the disc uses a straight NTSC-PAL conversion
2. possible subtitles
3. how the panels will be presented!
4. DVD only?

And I'll be a haaaappy boy!

I could probably take one if I wanted, but that would just let the work build up!

All on the list, mate. I can tell you now that this will be DVD only as the source material wasn't good enough to be encoded for high definition and, as I've mentioned before, this will be a native PAL presentation as a new encoding was taken.

Amertume 9th May 2011 05:11 AM

Cool man! :D

Lookin' forward to hearing more details around this release. :)

The commentary, like the film, is uncut. As for the other questions, I'll let you know when I find out.

Apparently not -- Region 0 like all the others.

I'm not privy to the contract; all I've been told is that it's Region 0, not Region 2.

bgart13 9th May 2011 06:37 PM

Ok, thanks, Nos!

Hubunkey_XXX 8th May 2012 09:03 PM

I just got this in the mail today and its R2 WTF?!?!? I thought it was R0  :mmph:
