FRIGHT NIGHT I reckon would get a 15 now.
Scanners also.Apart from the exploding head,I can't think of much else that would cause grief.

Redemption have changed the add to remove the word Uncut from the box.So maybe it was to good to be true.

I knew it. The BBFC would never waive the cuts to that film.

vincenzo 19th September 2009 07:21 PM

I didn't think they would either Angel. Redemption could have tried sneaking it out uncut (a la Night Of The Bloody Apes) but that wouldn't have been wise considering Requiem hadn't long been previously submitted and cut.

In an old issue of Dark Side, Brad Steven's says that the Arrow dvd of The Awful Dr Orloff was still cut because the bbfc didn't want to confuse customers because the cut version was rated 15 while the uncut version would classed 18.:der:

What was so bad, apart from the acting, in Requiem for a Vampire? The film has aged poorly and it's bound to put most to sleep before the poorly staged rape scenes come along. What's the BBFC beef this time?

vincenzo 21st September 2009 10:58 AM

The whipping scene would pass today (Embodiment Of Evil has a worse one) but the dungeon rape scenes would still be the big problem.

Angel 21st September 2009 04:36 PM

Well it is a little confusing regarding Dr.Orloff.

The BBFC wouldn't have passed the film uncut in 2002 when it was re-submitted because even if they were prepared to pass the film 18 uncut it would have been in breach of Board policy at the time regarding films going out with dual ratings, the previous version being 15. This was pre 2004.

It appears the uncut version was submitted in 2002, hence the cuts on their website, scenes in breach of their policy on sexual violence etc. I haven't seen the film but they would probably pass it now.

Those scenes showing naked women being raped and tortured are so far over the top that the BBFC wouldn't even consider passing them. If they were to pass this then they would have to pass Death Wish 2 and I Spit on Your Grave uncut as well.
