Here's the Flavia sleeve for people to have heart failure over:jest::

SHAM007 - Flavia The Heretic

I see what he means about the pole going behind the head... what if you just brought the top end of the pole into the foreground a little bit - so it looks like the pole is coming from out of the hair instead of behind it... you get me? No more blood needed.

It's a very minor detail - but you're creating a cover from scratch which will probably be known to generations to come... and apart from that it's ace! Brilliant work on the text.

Sam@Cult Labs 2nd November 2007 12:26 PM

Well, I work for shameless but I don't have any imput in the sleeve designs but I think we are just going back to basic exploitation principles here. People can go on about these films as art all they like and that's valid, but these movies were designed to be sold with a lurid campaign, a vile sleeve and a touch of the carnival barker. I we house these films in tasteful, "they are art now" covers then we would be selling out the original spirit of the movies. they were designed to entertain by appealing to our basest desires, so the sleeves reflect that

broonage 4th November 2007 02:38 PM

fab! Love the covers

Jonny 4th November 2007 06:25 PM

Like I said in the DVD Maniacs thread, and elsewhere, I like the Ratman cover... the tagline's a belter for sure! :D

Not keen on the Flavia one, bit busy for my tastes. But really at the end of the day I can honestly say I've never been put of buying a DVD because of the cover. Christ once I've bought it it'll spend the rest of it's life on my shelf with just the spine showing.

Shit! You saying I should have been posting images of the spines instead? Boy did i get this one wrong...

Sarah@Cult Labs 5th November 2007 03:36 PM

Just sticking in my two cents worth. I'm not familiar with either film so I'm judging it straight on the covers. I love the Ratman cover art. It's really eye catching and funny - I'd buy it if I saw it in HMV and the like. I like the cover art for Flavia The Heretic - again, it's very eye catching. I have to agree with others though in that I really don't like the tagline. That would probably put me off buying the film, whether I knew more about it or not. It just seems a bit silly and completely out of keeping with the rest of the artwork on the sleeve.

Philleh 5th November 2007 03:44 PM

I would have paid more attention to the feminist attitude of the film. Have an overly offensive tag-line against men, seeing as the film is about a womans hatred of men and all :)

I agree - that would be a lot better. If the film's got a feminist slant then a tag-line that reflects that would be much more suitable and much more likely to attract the right audience.

All true guys but I'm not sure if we'd sell a lot of DVDs with these carefully considered thoughts... Perhaps we could do a Torso: 'Where whores meet saws!' style thing for Flavia: 'Where evil bastards meet pokers!'

Flavia is certainly turning out to be a sticky one :D

Philleh 5th November 2007 09:58 PM

Lol, a dude does get anally pokered! It's not false advertising :p

You could just has something overly simple like 'Men: Know your place'

Or you could go for something like: It's Hot Up There!

:D

Philleh 6th November 2007 10:05 PM

Haha :)

Or: Revenge was her GOD given right!

Woo, thinking up tag-lines is fuuun.

If there's ever one that's just so good we may well use it (with the author's permission of course) but we're generally rather smug about our own... that and the designer might kill me if we keep changing things!

Philleh 7th November 2007 11:37 AM

Don't blame ya' the "Where whores meet saws" is genius as is the Ratman quip.

Maybe a thread could be started for potential tag-lines, and anyone who submits an entry also gives license to you guys, if you choose to take part?

Might help with titles due out next year, like Baba Yaga?

I dig this one! :)

Flavia the Uncut Heretic?

So the verdict from the BBFC on Flavia after umpteen viewing sessions...

BBFC details for FLAVIA, THE HERETIC - Register Number VFD16194 category 18
BBFC internal reference BVV109704

Date passed ( this is not the date of classification ) 19 December 2007
Submitted run time 01:36:02:12
Approved run time is 01:36:02:12

Consumer advice Contains strong violence, sexual violence and torture

**** yeah! This has been a tense one we don't mind telling you - especially after Venus. The real sticking point and the potential cut that looked like it was going to happen was the nipple-slicing but it's through! :)

So happy days... until we board the Night Train Murders!

Previous runtime cuts were:

When submitted to the BBFC the work had a running time of 96m 48s.

Category Type Date Run Time Cut Title
Video Video 24/02/1994 95m 45s Yes FLAVIA THE HERETIC

Angel 19th December 2007 04:01 PM

Wow, it got through uncut! That's amazing. Well done to the BBFC.

Almar@Cult Labs 19th December 2007 04:08 PM

Yeah bless 'em - it's all love and kisses... for now! :coolblue:

Angel 19th December 2007 07:46 PM

They still haven't listed the Shameless re-cut version of Venus in Furs on their website yet even though they passed it sometime ago.

bedorca 19th December 2007 08:18 PM

The BBFC aren't that efficient are they? ;) Great news Almar. Fingers crossed for the future!

vincenzo 19th December 2007 09:43 PM

Well I must admit to being pretty flabbergasted about this too. I never dreamed that this would get through intact and it does show the distance the BBFC has (finally) come. A BIG plus for Shameless, this. :)

I'm one of the first to criticize the BBFC when it comes to unnecessary or pointless cuts to films but I'll also be among the ones to commend them for passing this uncut. Let's hope this augurs well for Night Train Murders.

Philleh 20th December 2007 10:11 AM

I knew it! haha.

I had doubts that the animal cruelty would make it past, but as I mentioned previously, it had context. Clearly they saw it for the "art" that it is. Well done BBFC! - *takes hat off*

vincenzo 20th December 2007 11:55 AM

Shameless can proudly announce this as the 'Complete and Uncut Version'. :)

Jonny 20th December 2007 12:24 PM

Excellent news! Never seen the film before so now I'm really looking forward to seeing this!

Almar@Cult Labs 20th December 2007 03:57 PM

Yup and after the sound stuff with Torso we've had someone going through the Flavia audio with a toothcomb to avoid any glum faces! :(

SHAM007 - Flavia The Heretic

Right I'm going to start listing the titles on here properly headed up as above. I'll start putting up sleeve artwork for your comments and any other stuff that comes to mind.

Kicking off with this one, old Flavia we now know it's going to be uncut (yay!) and that we're going to put it out with one of our most controversial covers yet (boo!)

So let's kick off with the front sleeve:

http://i237.photobucket.com/albums/f...aviaSleeve.jpg

and then show you what you afficionados can get on the reverse...

http://i237.photobucket.com/albums/f...erseSleeve.jpg

So let's hear it! :)

The Reaper Man@Cult Labs 21st January 2008 10:08 PM

Reverse is great......all these tits on display, the wife's going to begin to wonder!!!:p

Almar@Cult Labs 21st January 2008 10:19 PM

It's pretty sensational - only got hold of the artwork very late on or we'd have been tempted to try and use some for the front.

Your wife is beginning to wonder? What do you think mine is saying?

The Reaper Man@Cult Labs 21st January 2008 10:22 PM

You've got the excuse of having to shift copies:D

Sarah@Cult Labs 21st January 2008 10:38 PM

Never mind your wives! What do you think my boyfriend is saying?!

(Cool sleeves, by the way!)

vincenzo 22nd January 2008 12:18 AM

Never mind wives & girlfriends. Even my cat has disowned me. http://shameless-films.com/forums/im...ilies/ack2.gif

What about mine?!?!

That should be a thread. What do other people say when they see your DVD collection?

(ps Love the artwork cover!)

Philleh 22nd January 2008 11:26 AM

Man, that original art-work is sexeh!

People seem to expect this stuff to be in my home.... hmmmm.

snipsmovies 23rd January 2008 09:34 AM

No Flavia at Play.com ?

Always tended to favour pre-ordering from Play as they often managed to ship New Releases in for a Saturday delivery. I see however that they haven't got Flavia available for pre-order .

Do they have a strict anti-sleaze policy or something ?

Pre-ordered from HMV instead. Anyone know the timescale for which they ship new releases ?

RobbieD 23rd January 2008 10:48 AM

It's in the adult section, between "Girls on Girls" and "Girls Gone Wild: Vegas Style"!!! It may be an idea if Shameless submit a censored cover (perhaps the artwork one?) to Play and maybe they'll move it over?!
