Older titles did have a hi-res mp4 copy, but newer releases just have a band on the back of the slipcase showing how to log on and download a copy(which is time limited i.e. "expires on 1/1/2012") 2nd disc might be special features or a dvd version. My INCEPTION is a 3 disc set 1 Blu 2 dvd 3 special features. Older release is below with a band at the bottom, copy included, mine has the band 3/4 up the case with info on download. So...croc.

platostotal 27th August 2011 11:38 PM

Ahhh... But just noticed INCEPTION is WB release and BLUES BROS is a Universal, so might be different(my comments are on WB copies)

Just watched DARK CITY and it was friggin' superb! One of the best films I've seen in ages.

Not only is it plastered all over the slipcover, but they felt the need to put it on the artwork in the case as well. Oh, and tell us on the back of said covers that there's a digital copy included too! As they say up here..... EEJITS! The saving grace is that the artwork is better than the rest of the globe.

I really don't get this whole 'bonus digital copy' thing. When I picked up the UK release of the original Friday the 13th it came with a code to download a free 'digital copy'. No offense, but I've just bought the film on a disc in glorious high definition, why the **** would I want to download a rather crap and compressed avi/mp4/mpeg file? Utterly pointless.

Exactly, the initial idea of giving a copy for mobile use (phones/ipods etc.) I could see, if it was included in the package. But WTF is the piont of downloading a big(read somewhere that a punter went thru all the gubbins and the pop-up said it was a 965meg WMV file:lol: nice waste of bandwidth:lol:) and imagine the DRM hassle(CP will be in full effect) as Daemonia eloquently said "pointless" indeed.

dream demon 28th August 2011 03:19 PM

Picked up the 3-disc collector's edition of The Deep End from HMV today for £19.99 (one of the few things that wasn't hilariously over-priced). Funny thing is the sales advisor said that it had only come into stock a few days ago, so I can only assume that they must have had some copies at their own warehouse and so escaped the fire. I had actually been looking for Shogun Assassin, but he reckoned that anything from the Enfield fire would be out of stock for a couple of months now.

Sam 28th August 2011 03:41 PM

Picked up the following over the weekend, 50p each from a charity shop:-

Freddy's Dead - The Final Nightmare - I know this is pretty bad but it's the only one I need to complete my NOES collection (except the remake, which doesn't count!)

Edge of Terror - I know nothing about this except it's directed by the same bloke who did 'Island of Death' so thought it worth a look on that basis.

I love Zombie Strippers, i seem to be in a minority though, let me know what you think of it.

I really loved it to especially Robert englunds character.

Isn't it so people with notebooks and things like iPads -- devices with decent screens but no DVD/BD drive -- can watch the film on the train or as passengers on long car journeys?

Anyway, last night I ordered To Live and Die in L.A., the US BD.

Will have to check out Death Watch.
I'll get a review up when I've seen ZS.

The thing i disliked most about it was the cast all British were playing Germans and speaking english, without any hint of a German accent. It drove me nuts. Oh and it was deadly dull .

It doesn't bother me if Tom Cruise plays a German in a film and puts on a dodgy German accent as in Valkyrie for example, at least you get the idea, but Germans speakng cockney. No. :nono:

Aren't girls able to buy them on BD then? ;)

Nosferatu@Cult Labs 28th August 2011 07:31 PM

I thought Predator 2 was dreadful and not a patch on the first one. I'm not sure why, but the urban setting definitely didn't work and Danny Glover didn't have the screen presence to command your attention.

Anyway, each to their own!

Lol it's just a phrase.
I'm sure it's possible as long as they have a written permission slip.

Pete 28th August 2011 07:39 PM

The urban setting is one of the main reasons why I liked it more. It's also a nicer film to look at (those blues in the slaughter house are lovely). Danny Glover is good in the film but he's definitely not leading man material and he's outclassed every time Bill Paxton and Gary Busey appear.

i already have them all except The Hulk and Van Helsing because they're shit films, wouldn't pay out for the same discs just with different artwork, i was tempted however to pick up Hot Fuzz and Shaun of the Dead blu's but decided against it...

Gotta be honest, I though these look good when I first spotted them, but I'm not a big fan of the rotoscoped look they've used. If they had just done then ones that were actually comics first and used panels from the origonal artwork then I think they would be something special.

BillyTkidd 29th August 2011 09:21 AM

just read the Arrow blu of Tenebrae is crap, and the french one is english friendly, any sites I can order from?

napalm-in-the-morning 29th August 2011 09:47 AM

Charity shops are becoming the source of choice for really cheap DVD,s. Have yet to find a blu ray disc in stock yet but will happen soon I've no doubt. Watching Hanna on blu ray tonight. Looks pretty good!

Yep, it WAS a good(cunning) plan, when the copy was included on disc, but surely most people with notebooks have external drives? but to be pedantic downloading nearly a gig is in no way free(mobile net is pricey) anywhere up to £15 a gig. people are better off converting/ripping it to HDD then onto notebook. And ipad owners, serves em right for spending all that money and not even getting USB:lol::lol:

TO LIVE AND DIE IN LA, top film indeed looked pretty good even on video, so Blu should be great.

buggenhagen 29th August 2011 11:34 AM

The US BD of To Live And Die In LA does indeed look great. One of my all time favourite films.

napalm-in-the-morning 29th August 2011 11:47 AM

The R1 DVD was excellent with lots if extras. Does the BR have even more?

mr 420 29th August 2011 11:52 AM

I came across a video called Nightmare City in a charity shop the other day. It's not the Lenzi film, it was directed by David Mitchell and has a score by Tangerine Dream. Anybody know anything about it?

City of Shadows (1987) - IMDb

buggenhagen 29th August 2011 12:19 PM

Unfortunately not. The blu-ray is a two-disc effort, disc one is a blu-ray featuring just the movie (remastered) and trailer, disc two is a standard DVD featuring all the extras from the original DVD release. It's not ideal an it would he nice to have some new extras but at least you get all the existing material and it's not taking any space away from the main feature.
