I considered Sands of Iwo Jima as it's breathtaking stuff, however Flags of Our Fathers i found quite uninvolving, possibly because it was about the war on the home front rather than combat.

I prefer to think of them as companion pieces, more a single film with one mirroring the other.

Away from this weeks topic I know, but I was looking through previous posts and realised I put Sands of Iwo Jima instead of Letters from Iwo Jima!

 I went along with it because Sands springs to mind easier than Letters so the fact you'd made an error didn't actually register.

It was only looking at it that I realised it didn't look right and that Sands of Iwo Jima was made considerably earlier and starred John Wayne!

And now, following the fifties it gets really tough, as Britain ruled the world when it comes to horror cinema for the next 14 or so years.

The Mummy (1959)

Could this be considered the first slasher film?

It has all the traits of what was to come in the 70's and beyond.

There's an interesting argument to be made in favour of that proposition.
