Top Ten Tuesdays

Im stealing this idea from one of my favourite Youtube horror collectors. I just taught it would be a bit of fun each Tuesday i will post a topic within horror and we all pick out top ten maybe a few word on each pick and why we like it nothing too crazy. It might also help introduce each other to films we have not seen before. Lists could be submitted between Tuesday until the following Monday so we do not cross over in to the next week.

Would people be up for this or is it a stupid idea.

bizarre_eye@Cult Labs 1st December 2015 08:24 PM

I think it's a great idea Nordy.

Nordicdusk 1st December 2015 09:31 PM

There seems to be some interest and hopefully a few more will jump on board so while its still Tuesday now would be a good time to get started. Remember all lists should be posted no later than next Monday.

Kicking off Week 1

Loads of killer animal movies, but incest isn't as popular a genre.

Stoker
Goodbye Gemini
The Cement Garden
Ma Mere
The Dreamers
Jug Face

I'm sure there are loads more but they aren't jumping out yet.

Nordicdusk 1st December 2015 09:58 PM

Its ruined already :headache:

Demdike@Cult Labs 1st December 2015 09:59 PM

Don't you want lists posted now?

Nordicdusk 1st December 2015 10:04 PM

See we are having fun already

Really have to stop posting here using my phone my spelling is terrible at the best of times without predictive text even worse why did incest come up before insect says a lot about me i think

Ah right!

I'm new to the game so presumed you selected two diverse categories for lists.

MacBlayne 1st December 2015 10:14 PM

So, are we opting for killer animals or incest? Or films that combine the two?

As far as incest goes, Visitor Q gets my vote as it opens with the ultimate father's day gift. :eyebrows:

bizarre_eye@Cult Labs 1st December 2015 10:25 PM

Interesting idea for a topic - I have to admit struggling a little with the incest idea for a while though... I had to pull out my friend from Norfolk's home videos to get some 'inspiration'.

Can animals include werewolves or is that cheating? ;)

Ooh, I'll be Howling 2 if that gets allowed.

Nordicdusk 1st December 2015 10:30 PM

Werewolves will be topic on its own sorry.

Wonder if that will include incest with werewolves?

Heres my top ten well i have had a little longer to think about it so here we go

10 Attachment 172751

There is a hell of a lot of fun to be had here watching giant ants picking off an unsuspecting group of tourists.

9 Attachment 172752

I remember seeing this as a kid and i was terrified of rabbits for years after it

8 Attachment 172753

Giant rats giant chickens giant wasps bad effects and bad acting sounds like fun times to me. This is one that always as me in stitches when ever i watch it.

7 Attachment 172754

Pretty intense film showing that your not even safe from your most loyal companion.

6 Attachment 172755

I love the story a pet alligator gets flushed into the sewers and after eating some lab rats that were injected with growth hormones he grows into a giant and goes on a rampage around the city. Nothing else needs to be said.

5 Attachment 172756

This is a bloody awesome film and its shot so beautifully. Very action packed and very underrated.

4 Attachment 172757

Jaws ruled the ocean and not to be upstaged the Piranha took over the rivers and dined at their favourite holiday resort

3 Attachment 172758

Fantastic effects and some great gore and a lot of fun. The cat scene is still hard to watch.

2 Attachment 172759

Again i first saw this when i was a kid and it terrified me every time i left the house i could see birds watching me sitting on the wall across from my house waiting for me sneering at me  Its a classic what else can be said.

1 Attachment 172760

Is this even a surprise Jaws is one of my all time favourite films so it was always going to be top of the list. Jaws is just amazing so many stand out scenes and so much stand out dialogue and its still scary all these years later and any time you go near or in the sea Jaws is the first thing that pops into your head. Not many films throughout history have gotten so deep into the subconscious of the masses.

bizarre_eye@Cult Labs 2nd December 2015 06:24 AM

Some fantastic choices there Nordy.

I've never seen The Nest so will have to add it to my watch-list.

Thank you :)

There is a great Blu Ray from Scream Factory of The Nest.

Demdike@Cult Labs 2nd December 2015 10:56 AM

Obviously Jaws is the greatest killer animal movie ever, but here is a list of ten other animal features that i love which haven't been mentioned yet.

1 - King Kong (1933)
2 - The Leopard Man (1943)
3 - Wolfen (1981)
4 - Lake Placid (1999)
5 - Pig Hunt (2008)
6 - Burning Bright (2007)
7 - Slugs (1988)
8 - 2 Headed Shark Attack (2012)
9 - Black Sheep (2007)
10 - Crocodile (2000)

Honorable mentions to -

Link (1986)
Piranha 3DD (2012)
Deep Blue Sea (1999)
The Devil Bat (1940)

Demdike@Cult Labs 2nd December 2015 11:09 AM

There are so many killer animal movies i could have done a top 50.

Perhaps the fish should have been a separate list from the animals.

I was just working on my list (a lot more difficult than I first thought!) and the 1933 version of King Kong sits at the top of mine too.

Demoncrat 2nd December 2015 11:21 AM

I have never been related to any insects. So I can shag them when I like.

Se also Empire Of The Ants haha ;)

I was thinking of putting Rats Night of Terror on my list but felt it was going a bit too far.

bizarre_eye@Cult Labs 2nd December 2015 11:32 AM

Here's mine...

1. King Kong (1933)
2. Jaws (1975)
3. The Birds (1963)
4. Q: The Winged Serpent (1982)
5. Grizzly (1976)
6. Long Weekend (1978)
7. Squirm (1976)
8. Day of the Animals (1977)
9. Slugs (1988)
10. The Devil Bat (1940)

Nordicdusk 2nd December 2015 11:47 AM

Great lists Dem and B_E I have never seen Slugs because I mentioned this before I have a phobia of slugs they turn my stomach. If I saw a slug near someone's mouth I'd be finished

I'm going to give this film a plug.

A girl and her autistic brother are trapped inside a flashy modern house in lock down mode due to a hurricane. The snag is they are trapped inside with a tiger.

This isn't a SyFy Channel original which is CGI'd to death. Burning Bright is a proper film and uses a real Bengal tiger.

Due to this it's all a lot more realistic and there's a genuine sense of menace involved. Burning Bright doesn't attempt to do anything clever, it's a straightforward film with a simple plot and good characterization.

Recommended. (However don't expect a tiger that fights giant robots or large gorillas - it's a real tiger remember).

What about your top ten animal films gag?

Gold6082 2nd December 2015 01:10 PM

I also strongly suggest those who haven't seen "The Nest" prioritise it fantastic, gory, fun film and makes my #1!

1. The Nest
2. Slugs
3. The Fly (1986) (I know slightly cheated) but it is an Incest...erm insect ;) and it does try to dissolve John Getz!

4. Kingdom of the Spiders
5. Monkey Shines
6. Long Weekend (1978)
6. Black Sheep
7. Mosquito
8. Night of the creeps (Alien Slugs)
9. Arachnophobia
10. White dog.

Brief Reasons

The Nest - I simply love the film and is my most "rewatched" insect horror and scream factory disc

Slugs - Slugs was one of the first ever horror VHS mum naughtily brought me when I was 12 from a long gone specialist shop. so it holds nostalgic memories for me,despite the acting being atrocious it has great gore and is a fun ride!

The Fly - I doubt I need to say much here, amazing film which shocked me and fascinated me when I first saw it age 12 recorded off TV.

Kingdom of The Spiders - Creepy, shocking nightmarish funfest that can be rewatched and never bores.

Monkey Shones - Sadly underrated and under-seen Romero film. Original stylish and gripping.

Long weekend - As many of you know only too well anything "Aussie" holds a place in my heart. This film is original and has a powerful message the fact it only has 2 cast + a dog and still manages not to dull is impressive.

Black Sheep - Original and amusing a headbutt more than a nod to Bad Taste.

Mosquito - Silly but great fun. The synapse Blu Ray looks stunning then again we all Know with Don it wouldn't be anything less. R.I.P Gunnar

Night of The Creeps - Silly, fun and Tom Atkins what more can you ask for?

Arachnophobia - In my personal opinion not as shocking as Kingdom of the spiders but still a creepy experience particularly for a PG. Always good rewatch value.

White Dog - A Story with a powerful undertone, great acting and original ideas.

P.S look forward to the "werewolf" top ten, despite that being a much tougher list to comprise.

Rick

Nordicdusk 2nd December 2015 01:15 PM

Another great list and a fan of The nest and the great Tom Atkins:happy:

Demoncrat 2nd December 2015 02:38 PM

As asked for.

Them! (1954)
Long Weekend (1978)
Rats Night Of Terror (that ending!!)
King Kong (1933)
Squirm (1976)
The Birds (shouldn't this be on every list??)
Infested (2002)
Alligator (1980)
Piranha (1978)
Willard (2003)

Nordicdusk 2nd December 2015 04:21 PM

I must add Long Weekend and White Dog to my watch list.

The 2008 remake isn't bad either.

It doesn't go OTT like it could have done thankfully. It's directed by Jamie Blanks of Urban Legend and Storm Warning.

Obviously check out the original first and if you like it wait a while then give the remake a go.

No real order as such. The first ten that came to mind so presumably the ones that stuck with me most..
