I think most of us would be in the same boat if Nordy decided to force us to choose our 'Top 10 Adam Sandler Comedies', however I'm sure he's not that cruel...

Have a feeling it would be more welcome than a Lugosi top ten.

nosferatu42 26th January 2016 09:39 AM

That was a bit easier.;)

1.Halloween
2.The Thing
3.Escape From New York
4.They Live
5.Christine
6.Assault On Precinct 13
7.The Fog
8.Prince Of Darkness
9.Dark Star
10.Big Trouble In Little China

Maybe in certain circles but not with me!

Justin101 26th January 2016 09:59 AM

I wanted to include Ghosts of Mars but I knew deep down it wasn't better than the ones I chose in my top 10

http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b3...enterTop10.png

I've based this top 10 on the rating I had given it on my last rewatch and recorded on my Letterboxd account.
  1. Halloween
  2. Big Trouble in Little China
  3. The Fog
  4. In The Mouth of Madness
  5. Assault on Precinct 13
  6. Prince of Darkenss
  7. They Live
  8. The Thing
  9. Christine
  10. Escape from new York

Nordicdusk 26th January 2016 10:04 AM

I actually watched In The Mouth of Madness for the first time recently.

Did you rate it? I had recently read some HP Lovecraft and then watched In The Mouth of Madness and the parallels between the two made me like it even more!

Gold6082 26th January 2016 10:27 AM

1. The Thing.

2. Halloween

3. Body Bags

4. In The Mouth of Madness

5. Christine

6. Prince of Darkness

7. The Ward

8. They Live

9. The Fog

10. Big Trouble in Little China

:bolt:

1. The Wicker Man (1973)
2. Psycho (1960)
3. Rosemary's Baby (1968)
4. The Innocents (1961)
5. The Devil Rides Out (1968)
6. Nosferatu (1922)
7. Eyes Without a Face (1960)
8. Don't Look Now (1973)
9. The Devils (1971)
10. Jaws (1975)

Possibly my most inaccurate Top 10 posted so far in as much as I may have missed a load that otherwise would have been there; Damn you Dem!! :tongue1:

I know what you mean. I too found it difficult. Confusing as well. It was a category that could easily have been broken up. I was also torn between the films and the stories themselves therefore there are discrepancies between the ranking of this list and my top ten films of all time.

Demdike@Cult Labs 26th January 2016 10:47 AM

The Fog
Prince of Darkness
Halloween
Escape From New York
The Thing
Christine
Starman
Ghosts of Mars
In the Mouth of Madness
The Ward

Just because Assault on Precinct 13 and Big Trouble in Little China, not to mention They Live, aren't on the list doesn't mean i don't rate them. I do, i think all three are brilliant. Carpenter is my fave genre director by a long way and my ranking after the top 5 which remains constant, changes with viewing.

bizarre_eye@Cult Labs 26th January 2016 11:29 AM

...The Ward *shudders*

I'm not the only one who's listed The Ward.

Perhaps, just this once you not liking it doesn't mean it's not very good.

I didn't quote you did I - it was a general statement to all who chose to list it. ;)

However, when The Ward appears in a top Carpenter list and there is no sign of Assault on Precinct 13, all I can say is:

Lock up before you go won't you. And don't forget your toothbrush!

Now to make you head for another galaxy.

I might actually prefer the remake of Assault. It's more of an action film and a lot more fun. Again i've never said i don't like Assault because i do. If i watched it tonight i'm sure it would get in the top 10 (6 or 7) if i did the list tomorrow. However it's Top Ten Tuesday so i haven't and it didn't. :tongue1:

Oh and Rio Bravo is far better than Assault. I'm sure even JC would admit that.

Rio Bravo is a solid film, although I much prefer Assault personally.

Ghosts of Mars makes for a nice Assault remake too. ;)

I didn't want to compound your agony by saying i prefer Ghosts to Assault. Which i do. I've said this before but Ghosts of Mars has the same effect as Prince of Darkness . IE- It gets better with each viewing.

However you brought it up so feel compounded. ;)

I can sort of make peace with that as Ghosts is a guilty pleasure of mine, however I'm starting to lose signal as I careen through inter-galactic space seeking a new planet to call home. ;)

May i suggest LV-426.

I think you'd settle in well there as it's uninhabited...apparently.

;)

Prince_Vajda 26th January 2016 05:39 PM

1. Halloween (1978)
2. Christine (1983)
3. The Fog (1980)
4. Assault on Precinct 13 (1976)
5. Vampires (1998)
6. The Ward (2010)
7. Escape from New York (1981)
8. The Thing (1982)
9. Ghosts of Mars (2001)
10. Dark Star (1974)

n.b. Halloween is one of the best films ever.

It's no masterpiece, but I really enjoyed it. I have to admit that back in the day when I watched it, I had quite a crush on Amber Heard. This might have clouded my judgement.

Shame on me... never watched it.

You've really no need to bother. It's the same film as Escape from New York but much, much worse.
