I thought we'd never have to return to the days of being locked out of various regions. The real icing on the cake was the Blu-ray Group putting Japan into Region A. Sneaky. They were always in Region 2 on DVD, same as us. Now we're locked out. I'd love to go multi-region for Blu-ray, but I'm just totally skint at the moment and the little cash I have goes on Blu-rays. Sony were determined to put strict region coding in place with Blu-ray (HD DVD had no region coding whatsoever).

I'm a bit annoyed that Sony had such a hand in the creation of Blu-ray, as they're also a film studio and thus have a bias. And yet, having insisted on such rigid coding, nearly all Sony releases are region-free. Go figure. :loco:

My favourite Peckinpah film -- superb! Whatever the region, I'll pre-order a copy.

Ah, but maybe that was their cunning plan all along? While everyone else is busy region locking all their releases, Sony have the imports market all to themselves thus bumping up sales - mwahaha! :lol:

COUNTESS DRACULA confirmed, from Synapse:

“DRACULA” and more Coffin Joe coming from Synapse

Plus, the first two Coffin Joe movies (but no specific note about them being in HD).

I have a real soft spot for Countess Dracula and reviewed the Network SE DVD before that was released in the UK, so will probably import this. I hope there are some new extra features that would be happy if the ones from the UK Network DVD find their way onto the BD.

Interesting to hear about the Coffin Joe movies and it would be a minor miracle if they could be cleaned up and the contrast levels improved for a HD release.

Yep, this is a must for me too. Synapse seem to be releasing some decent titles on Blu (got The Exterminator on pre-order). :D

And judging by their Vampire Circus BD, this will no doubt be region-locked too. Not sure why, though, has there been a Region B release? Who would be losing out, exactly?

I hate all this region-coding nonsense, but ****ed if I'm playing all that money to have my player chipped. I might look into getting a cheap Region A locked player though.

I thought COUNTESS DRACULA was boring so I may give it a miss. I'll be up for some COFFIN JOE on blu-ray though!:nod:
