Perhaps, as the two people who commented on the film they thought he watched both passed their opinions on two completely different movies! Still, we now know what I think of Steve McQueen's Hunger and what bizarre_eye thinks of Tony Scott and The Hunger!

robertzombie 8th August 2010 02:58 PM

Well, I decided to watch ISOYG with the commentary track playing as I've seen the film before. Some very interesting opinions and pieces of information from Mr. Zarchi :D

Mordum, on the other hand. Got 30 minutes in and had to turn the bastard off. I'm a gore fan and a film has never gotten the better of me until today. Actually, I think it was the shaky camera that really did it, had my head spinning!

mercury 8th August 2010 03:39 PM

Watched Batman Begins last night. I find it amazing that I connect with Batman and want him to kick ass in this film, but in the Dark Knight I want the Joker to win and can't stand Batman until the last scene of the fim.

i thought it was really good :)

Watched Splice last night.

thought it was pretty good, altho it lacked action IMO.
Ending was good as it had more going on.
The 2nd sex scene was pretty shocking, I was like
And then a bit later she forgot all about it and forgave him.
The end rape was pretty shockin too. I dont mean shocking as in disturbing.
Looking forward to a sequel as thats what the end hinted at.

"Evil Come Evil Go", a great slice of Southern Gothic religious murder crossed with West Coast sexploitation. In amongst all the flesh, blood and near hardcore action there is a rather fine satire on American fundamentalist Christianity.

"The Hand of Pleasure" bleeding awful sexploiter that contains loads of tourist information footage about London and a couple of cute looking women who have been turned into "love robots" to, er, suck information from spies. For some reason the two purr and meow a lot! Also contains a fairly funny joke about midgets.

The third film on this Something Weird disc, "Terror at Orgy Castle" defeated me last night, however having made a personal vow to see every film ever made with women dressed only in cloaks and big thatching, I will return to it at a later date - once Mrs MTDS is out or in bed and stops calling me a pervert.

The Triple Feature of Disappointment!

Nr. 1 - The Taking of Pelham 123 (Remake)
Only one thing to say: Stop moving the friggin camera, this isn't cool, it's just godawfully annoying! The script was fine, the two lead actors really good but Tony Scotts directions - especially the editing and camera work - are downright terrible and ruin almost every single scene in this film.

Nr. 2 - Smokin Aces 2
You might wanna bitchslap me for this one, but I found the first one to be pretty boring and uninteresting. So after I heard the second should be just a mindnumbing actionfest, I had to get it, of course. And you know what, the story's pretty nice ... well, it's crammed into the last 10 minutes of the movie, the rest is lame jokes and unintersting characters, mixed with little not-very-well-done action - long story short: A bore with surprisingly good last 10 minutes.

Nr. 3 - Ong Bak 2
Call me an idiot, but if I watch a film with a "2" at the end, I expect it to have at least something to do with the first ... anything! Especially, if Jaa also produced and co-directed this thing. Well, what do you want to see Jaa doing - right, the same you want to see Jackie Chan doing, and that's kicking some mjr butt. Well, "Ong Bak 2" hat much, but action's not really a part of it. There's talking, testing, some dancing, more talking, more nothing and once in the middle and in the (awesome) finale, there's what you've been waiting for for 70 friggin minutes: asswhoopin! And yeah, Jaa does that pretty well and those fight scenes are really impressive - but the rest of the movie is just plain boring. And, oh yeah, why the hell is that one called "Ong Bak 2"? Should have been called "Revenge of the Warrior 2", at least it has more to do with this one than with OB. Well, the connection's still pretty damn loose, but hey, there are elephants. :D

Now I think I gotta watch me some NCIS to calm my nerves... Seriously, pick 3 movies for a night you really have looked forward to and all of them suck, that's gotta be some kind of record. :D

mbv 9th August 2010 06:55 AM

Jaws. Was on telly yesterday and no matter how many times I've seen this I can't seem to turn it off. At this stage myself and the missus are quoting something in every scene!

Gran Torino. Brilliant Clint movie. Great seeing him in front of the camera again

Friday the 13th 6. The scene where Jason is resurrected is one of my faves of the series.

antmumford 9th August 2010 11:23 AM

Kelly bought me The Crazies remake on Blu-ray yesterday so watched it last night. I saw it in the cinema and thought it was great, seeing it for the second time I still thought it was great. Well directed, acted and a healthy amount of scares thrown in. In my opinion it's the best 'remake/reimagining' of a horror classic along with Dawn of the Dead.

nekromantik 9th August 2010 12:10 PM

Saw My Son My Son What Have Ye Done.

It said David Lynch presents in the title screen but apparntly he has nothing to do with the movie apart form being connected to the production company. Its a lil hommage to Lynch movies about the slow spiral into madness of one man.

Now I am not sure how I feel about it, its not a bad movie at all but I gotta admit it was kinda slow in the middle and bored me with all the flashbacks. Once it got going again at the end then it caught my attention again.

DeadAlive 9th August 2010 02:16 PM

Mercenaries From Hong Kong
This is not as action packed as I was hoping for, but a solid cast help a great deal. Mindless but enjoyable fun directed by hack film maker Wong Jing. I believe this was one of the first Shaw Brothers films to have a modern day setting.

Sex And Drugs And Rock & Roll
Biography of Ian Dury who despite being stricken with polio at a young age became one of the founders of the punk-rock scene in Britain in the 1970s. A little arty at times with some embellishments purely for dramatic effect, the central performance from Andy Serkis is outstanding. It helps that the songs are great too.

pedromonkey 9th August 2010 04:26 PM

District 9
awesome incredibly original sci-fi flick.

Cabin Fever 2
not a bad sequel, had some obvious studio interference but still enjoyable.

Tenebrae One of the best Argento movies. Greatest ever arm chopping in history.
Starship Troopers Finally got around to watching this. Apart from the incredible cheese and crap acting this is great fun.
Two Evil Eyes Hadn't watched this in years and was much better than I remembered.

Sargento 11th August 2010 08:10 PM

Just watched

Tekken

Yet again another video game to movie borefest! Just didn't feel like a Tekken game at all. Some of the characters were there yeah, but they could have been anyone. I was waiting for the bloke with the leopards head to show up, but didn't! What a cop out! But the guy from Bros was there!!

Poor story, uninspired action ... zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

pedromonkey 11th August 2010 08:22 PM

just watched Neil Marshall's Centurian, very well made and much less of a mess that Doomsday. The cool thing about the story was that it could have easily been made in a WW2 action film or even a Modern Military film....it was good though

BioZombie 11th August 2010 10:09 PM

I have just finished watching Colin. A low budget british zombie film that was supposedly shot for £45. Its really great, there are so many intense brutal moments and the story is well thought out. Its a bit like everything you want to see in a zombie film distilled into 90 minutes of crazyness and the idea of following a zombie the whole time is inspired!

If you've not seen it yet it is really really worth a watch.

Make Them Die Slowly 11th August 2010 10:32 PM

"Hell On Wheels": stock car racing, moonshine and country music. Sounds great but this is a yawnfest with lots and lots of crap country musical acts performing throughout the film.

"The Wild Rebels" more stock car racing but no country music this time. Instead we get the smallest gang of Bikers ever, totalling 4 if you include the gangs' mama. The final shoot out with the police is okayish if you're in a forgiving mood.

re.form 11th August 2010 10:32 PM

'True Crime' - decent thriller from Clint Eastwood.

Just got backed from my local indie cinema, watched 'Four Lions'. Not as extreme as Chris Morris' other stuff, but still very funny and even touching in some parts.

BioZombie 12th August 2010 12:01 AM

After Colin I decided to watch Dragon Tiger Gate.

It's not a terrible film but it did have a lot of parts that annoyed me. The plot was a bit all over the place, there was some truely horrid cgi and it could have done with an extra fight scene in the middle when it got a bit slow.

The fights themselves were well choeographed by Donnie Yen (if a little too depedant on wire work and acrobatics), but the cinematographer seen more intent on showing off fancy camera movents rather than choosing shots that worked with and showecased the martial arts to it full extent.

I'm glad I only paid a fiver for the dvd and didnt shell out 12 quid for the blu-ray.

antmumford 12th August 2010 08:28 AM

Last night I watched Jackie Chan & The Kung Fu Kid and Red Road.
I really liked the Jackie Chan one, I mean of course I would even if it was crap but it was genuinely a good film. It's about a boy who idolises Jackie Chan and so goes on a little trip to Beijing to try and find him to become his disciple. It had some comedy elements, some good fighting and it was quite touching at one point (I think it was due to seeing myself in the kid). 3 out of 5
Red Road was a great film. About a lady CCTV operator who sees someone on one of her cameras that she may know so she kind of follows him  I can't say much about the story to be honest because it'll ruin it for you but it's a good British film. It's quite tense and really portrays Glasgow in all it's miserably gloomy self. Unsettling but ultimately rather touching too. 4 out of 5

That'll be Glasgow it's portraying! The Red Road flats are very iconic, and due to be demolished in the near future. Yeah, it's very dark but a good little film. It's meant to be part of a trilogy, I worked on the next film (called "Rounding Up Donkeys") but it's never seen the light of day unfortunately.

Nosferatu@Cult Labs 12th August 2010 10:03 AM

I've recently finished watching Yakuza Papers: Battles without Honour & Humanity which are five stunning gangster movies with really visceral and realistic violence, an extremely complicated structure (fortunately the set comes with a 'family tree' to help you follow who is who) and it's up there with the best gangster movies I've ever seen.

Of course it was. Edited now :)

Phats 12th August 2010 11:29 AM

I'm ashamed to say that the last movie I saw was Dawn of the Dead - the original - for the very first time. It was fantastic and looked great on bluray. I haven't got round to watching the other cuts of the movie on the DVDs yet, so can anyone say which of the cuts of the movie they prefer, or are the cuts so similar that it's hard to tell the difference?

I also watched Escape from LA and Vampires which were both pretty poor by John Carpenter's standards. The effects in Escape from LA looked really terrible.

DeadAlive 12th August 2010 12:25 PM

Lesbian Vampire Killers
This is not the worst film ever made as some would have you believe, but it is lazy film making lacking originality and style. I did chuckle a few times along the way, (Paul McGann's swearing priest was great.) but the whole thing just felt like an idea for a thirty minute comedy skit had been stretched out to make a 85 minute movie. I couldn't understand why the vampires' blood was replaced by white fluid duing their kills. If this was trying to cash in on the success of films like "Shaun Of The Dead" they should have realised that genuine gore is an important aspect.

The Perfect Getaway
I enjoyed this a lot more than I expected. For the most part this is well acted and the script is quite smart. There is a nice line of pitch black humour that runs through it too. The "twist" was no real big surprise and the ending fell a bit flat for me but on the whole this is a fine time filler with a few classy moments along the way.

Lady In A Cage
Surprsingly sadistic thriller which may lack gore but certainly has plenty of atmosphere. Olivia de Havilland plays a middle aged woman who gets stuck between floors of her nice well-to-do house while James Caan (This may be his first leading role?) plays the leader of a group of particularly nasty thugs who plan to rob the house. When they see the woman's predicament they decide to terrorise her for a while. This may be tame by todays standards but it must have been a real shocker for most back in 1964. (My understanding is that it was actually banned in the UK.) As a note of interest the opening credits are a real grabber.

watched The Jail by Bruno Mattei this morning and al;l i can say about it is it has everything. Both Jess Franco and Joe D'amato would be proud to have made this sleazefest

Very well filmed but also very boring and badly acted Swedish low budget horror film.

Mother of God! I just watched the uncut "Caligula". How did it make it through the BBFC? I'm heavily into 70s roughie porn at the moment and this film competes with the best of them. What next, an uncut UK release of "The Taming of Rebecca" or "The Devil Inside Her"?
:clap:Arrow Films.

BioZombie 13th August 2010 12:23 AM

I have just got back from doing the rehersal screening of The Expendables at work.

I went in really wanting to like it a lot. I mean how could it be bad with so many action greats. I came out thinking 'that was kind of ok'. For all of the action in the film there were still parts that seemed quite slow. I was couting the film reels though and notcied that by the middle of the film The Expendables still hadnt even decided if they were going to take the big mission yet.

The other major problem I had was the over use of shakey camera work and constant cutting. I really hate this type of action filming, for me it takes away from what is happening on screen. A good example here is the fight between Jet Lee and Dolph Lundren, for all I know it could have been an amazing show down between two action greats, but all I saw was the odd punch connecting a lots of shots of legs torsos and other close up body parts.

The end battle manages to pick the film up at the end (even if it is also hampered by poor camera work and editing). It's not quite up there with the violence of Rambos lastest outing but the set pieces are bigger and the explosions are fatter and Terry Cruise with his awsome shot gun shell firing machine gun was a sight to behold.

In the end as I sai before this film its just ok, it's not the ultimate action filmed as it was halied in the trailer, that title in my opinion is still held by Hard Boiled (or if you catch me on the right day, probably when I'm slightly anibrated Bad Boys II.
