Did you collect any of the Santos films while in Mexico Cloud. ?

cloud 13th February 2009 01:33 AM

I did indeed collect a few Santo DVDs while there, the ones unavailable in the US at least. I left them all behind though, I do plan on fetching them over at a later date however.

iluvdvds@Cult Labs 13th February 2009 12:17 PM

Watched Bava's The Girl Who Knew Too Much last night - an absolutly amazingly fantastic superb masterpiece! Also, just got Chopper Chicks In Zombietown in the post today - very different from TGWKTM, but looks like a lot of fun! :D

They showed Frogs on Zone Horror this week. It was surprisingly good!

Prophecy is one of my favorite monster films. I have the US DVD release of it. The picture quality is excellent and it's widescreen, but there's no extras on the disc, not even a trailer!

I had the r1 but when I found out it was out in Germany & Holland uncut I bought the r2.

NossB 17th February 2009 08:05 AM

I just bought The Pit/Hellgate after looking through cheap Anchor Bay DVDs on Amazon, I haven't seen either but this line from DVD Verdict sold me:

What do a demonic teddy bear and Horshak from Welcome Back, Kotter have in common? They are both stars of two of the most $%#@-ed up movies ever made.

I didn't need to read the rest of the review.

Mojo 18th February 2009 07:02 PM

The Escapees
Two young women escape from a 'correction centre' and team up with a band of travellers / performance artists. As ever, great photography and bizarre sequences abound, resulting in an entertaining film from Jean Rollin.
If you're a fan of Rollin ( which I am ) and Night Of The Hunted ( ditto ) you should like this.
Pretty good pq and features a nice interview with Rollin, which is interspersed with clips from a number of his films. Recommended.

Paganinni Horror
Oh gawd. Crap female rock band finds 'haunted' music sheet which turns them into equally crap rock band. Paganinni's ghost appears at certain times and starts killing people. This is absolute pants. Don't bother.

The Reaper Man@Cult Labs 18th February 2009 07:15 PM

Not reading Mojo...I've still to watch THE ESCAPEES....;)

Mojo 19th February 2009 12:41 PM

Sorry, reaper - I've edited my post ( above ) to avoid any possible spoilers. Anyway, hope you enjoy the dvd.

The Reaper Man@Cult Labs 19th February 2009 08:39 PM

Gonna watch it at the weekend Moj....

eiren 20th February 2009 10:07 AM

Got the French version of Necronomicon. Great transfer, really good picture. Shame the French subtitles are burned in, but a really good package. Better film than I remembered it being too.

KPWNINJA 20th February 2009 10:25 AM

Picked up the MGM Essential Horror Collection the other week.
It includes The Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2, Stigmata and Carrie. :p

Also picked up Urotsukidoji III: The Return of the Overfiend. :woot:

SS Hell Pack - Shreik Show

Mojo 20th February 2009 07:10 PM

Conquest
Sword & Sorcery aint really my thang - I only bought this cos of Fulci. I ended up getting carried along with the weirdness / silliness of it all. Lots of good action sequences with plenty of Fulci style splattery gore. Great fun.

The Cursed Medallion
Another one originally scheduled to be released by Redemption VHS back in the day. A few ropey effects aside, this is an enjoyable Omen / Exorcist crossover from Massimo Dallamano. I like Dallamano's style. Give this one a spin.

:)

KPWNINJA 22nd February 2009 04:22 PM

Picked up the R2 Tartan release of Return of the Living Dead. Complete with the original soundtrack! :D

Paul 22nd February 2009 05:16 PM

I have the Italian release of The Cursed Medallion on DVD. Well worth a watch.

:

I've been wanting Nightmare In Blood ever since I got rid of my VHS copy of it, it's not as if it's expensive either as Amazon have it for about £2.50 last time I checked.

"One thing's certain. Inspector Clay is dead....... murdered....... AND SOMEBODY'S RESPONSIBLE!!!"

They're absolutely abysmal. I adore them. :D

Make sure you watch Johnny Depp's superb performance as Ed Wood in the Tim Burton film. The recreations of Wood's movies are stunning.

Your right Conquest is great fun despite how silly it is.

Q is brilliant! Larry Cohen's best film along with God Told Me To.

Screamtime unfortunately so it's without that glorious artwork... Still it's uncut so I can't complain too much.

Been trying to hunt down Vipco DVD's and VHS lately. Preferably with the artwork intact. :p Managed to track down a copy of The Incredible Melting Man on VHS recently which I'm pleased about but it's becoming more and more difficult to find Vipco now. (Apart from the screamtime collection!)

vincenzo 26th February 2009 11:52 AM

A Screamtime DVD of Night Of The Demon is residing in my local charity shop as we speak. :ack:

Hopefully some nice film company will re-release it in its uncut form. :D
