I've actually had this on my wishlist for a while, I may have to try and pick it up (as there isn't a full version of it on YT for me to watch). It's certainly Fame enough.

No but right style/age of building, judging from the inside. I've added this to my watchlist, looks interesting.

Had a skim through, no obvious cock, but the trousers look tight enough so maybe I should try harder.

Inspector Abberline 23rd August 2015 06:59 PM

what

Stalag 17 1953
My favorite Billy Wilder film, which is difficult considering the amount of great films he has made, but for me Stalag17 is so good its almost perfect, the film never misses a beat and hasn't a single bad performance.William Holden is the cocky black marketeer, J.J. Sefton who falls foul of his fellow prisoners due to his collaborating with the German guards. And when information is leaked to the guards its Sefton the suspicion falls upon.
Sefton: There are two people in this barracks who know I didn't do it. Me and the guy that did do it.
Written for the stage by Edmund Trzcinski(who has a great cameo as Triz' Trzcinski) and Donald Bevan based on there own experiences of a POW camp, the film very rarely stray's from the actual barracks. With a superb cast that includes Peter Graves,Neville Brand and Otto Preminger. The comedy is pitch perfect and doesn't distract from the reality of the situation of the characters or there plight. Its very witty and has a clever little story that has great satisfying outcome to the story.

Triz' Trzcinski: [after reading letter from home] I believe it. My wife says, "Darling, you won't believe it, but I found the most adorable baby on our doorstep and I've decided to keep it for our very own. Now you won't believe it, but it's got exactly my eyes and nose." Why does she keep saying I won't believe it? I believe it! I believe it.

The Incredible Melting Man (1977)
Steve West: You've never seen anything, til you've seen the Sun through the rings of Saturn!
A film which Ive viewed twice this week, and didn't fall asleep either times,(a world record me thinks). You could not get a more simpler story, man goes into space, man returns to earth, man starts melting, man walks around with bits slowly falling off him,man finally turns into massive bloody puddle (oopps spoiler alert). Its a strange film that bills his main cast member Alex Rebar as Incredible Melting Man,although he is referred to as Steve in the film.Theres no story really its just a man rambling across the countryside losing limbs on the way.So thank god for Rick Baker and Greg Cannom who did the special makeup effects,he doesn't so much as melt but scab over and then OOZZE like a bubbling lasagna just out of the oven.it would be no surprise if the makers of Street Trash were fans as it definitely has that vibe about it.

Killer Klowns from Outer Space
PT Barnum said it so long ago
There's one born every minute, don't you know
Some make us laugh, some make us cry
These clowns only gonna make you die

If ever a film did what it said on the label then this is it,no false advertising here folks, klowns that kill from space, with popcorn and candy floss no less. Its really fun and amusing on a juvenile level. But the real star of the film is the brilliant klown make-up each klown has his own unique look and the prosthetics effects are well crafted and make it a cut above your usual low budget 80s flick.Plus what a killer theme song from The Dickies.

They Nest (2000)
Not to be confused with The Nest,Robins Nest or Nestle ,They Nest is a fun and un pretentious little bugs movie.I luv bug movies whether its William Castles Bugs trying to communicate with Brad Dillman,or the They're Creeping Up on You segment from Creepshow or just plain old giant ants trying to annoy Joan Collins (not such a bad idea toffy nosed strumpet)cockroaches, not only a dirty word but there considered the creepiest and ugliest in the bug fraternity,(not sure if they were even invited to Ugly Bug Ball). Not only are these cockroaches, but African ones (because every disease or plague seems to come from there) and they spawn a hybrid flying version just to irritate the locals.Probably the only film ever to have a chase scene involving a cockroaches and a hamster. So if your any way creeped out by these critters you better bug off.

I don't remember much and I doubt it will ring any direct bells with anyone but I'm just hoping someone might know.

I'm pretty sure I watched it on Channel 4, mid to late 90s, late night. I don't think it was horror but it may have been sexy.

I don't even know if it was English language or where it was set other than Europe. Girl, boarding dance school. Not Suspiria, Not Étoile.

I really know this isn't much to go by at all, I don't think my description would do it but if anyone knows what was shown late night on Channel 4 (or BBC 2) throughout the 90s I might just get somewhere.

Forgotten how much I enjoyed this wonderful and uplifting romantic comedy. In the height of the fear of the Cold War and nuclear Armageddon a husband and his pregnant wife take to there fallout shelter in fear of a possible nuclear attack, three is an explosion, but it's not a nuclear attack but a jet plane that crashes and demolish the house. The husband played Christopher Walken sets the timer on the fault for 35 years, in this time they raise there son with their 50/60s values.

35 years pass and the son ( Brendan Fraser ) sets out to restock their supply's and find himself a none mutated wife Along the way he meets Eve and what we have from them is a wonderful feel good romantic comedy about a fish out of water that has lead the ultimate sheltered life. We also have sissy spacek who gives a hilarious performance as the movie. Also look out for a young Nathan Fillion as a love rival. 9.5/10

Now watching inkubus which is better than I was expecting

Martial Arts of Shaolin.

Jet Li hops, skips and jumps across some amazing background landscapes, from one set piece to another, in this light but overall enjoyable film. The fight scenes are large in scope, bloodless and semi comical in tone and there are loads of them. Fun.

#11 - My Dear Killer (1972) Pretty much unengaging for me this one, didn't bore me at least!

#12 - Ratman (1988) Quite like this one, one of the first Shameless titles I ever bought mainly because of the tagline.

Oh and none Shameless related: Just saw the Pingu/Thing.......Briliant! Never thought I'd see Pingu say "F*** You!"

The Kid with the Golden Arm.

Excellent martial arts action in a great looking studio setting which gives the film a heightened sense of detachment from reality fitting to the absurdities of the plot and characters. I really enjoyed this, especially the way as the film progressed, the fights got more and more bloody. Recommended.

It's being compared to American Psyco and Filth, personally the tone reminds me much more of Chris Malrys Double Entry. Quite brilliant. Go and see it. go and see it now, or in November when it hits UK cinemas.

I was back in Hamburg this weekend to catch a few of the films I missed in Berlin.

Saturday began with the excellent french gangster film The Connection which takes us back in time to 1970's Marseilles to explore the French Connection from the French side. This is a superlative thriller which cranks up the tension with each minute until the inevitable conclusion. Recommended.

Next up was Howl. I had seen some preliminary footage at Fright Fest Glasgow and was interested to see how SFX wizard Paul Hyatt would follow up his debut The Seasoning House, a film that I really liked. The Howl, while a very competent effort, was a little disappointing. I found the direction a little flat. But I am sure it will be a favourite among the splatter hounds at next weeks Fright Fest.

By far the biggest disappointment was Tale of Tales which manages to squander budget, visual talent and a great cast in a film that is just dull.

Saturday night concluded with a grimy revenge horror in which a young woman who was kidnapped and held as a sex slave turns the tables on her captor and sets out to rescue a number of woman also being held captive. This was a perfect 80 minutes to take us through the midnight hour.

Sunday got off to a great start with The Invitation a masterclass in how to build an atmosphere of unease as a dinner party reuniting a group of friends after 2 years apart goes to hell in a hand basket. The tension is ratcheted up unbearably until the explosive and brutal climax.

Talking of climaxes, British rom-com Nina Forever, explores loss, grief and how to get over the ex from hell with its dark, humorous study of the menage a trios between Robert, his new girlfriend and his dead ex in a film described as "disturbingly erotic" in the Q&A following the film.

My final film of the weekend was another clunker sci-fi action-horror Infini which is neatly summed up by an early line of dialogue "Black Hole, singularity bullshit[/b]. Poorly written and directed substituting science gobbeldy-gook and visual references to sci-fi classics like Aliens and Bladerunner for story, characterisation and dialogue. A shame as the film looked visually much greater than the relatively modest budget one assumes was spent on the film.

Anyway three great films, The Invitation, The Connection and Nina Forever, two good films in Howl and Bound to Vengeance more than make up for Tale of Tales and Infini.

I will return to Hamburg to see Hallow on Tuesday before making my way yo London for Fright Fest next weekend.

Once a year for 12 hours all crime is made legal. Even after typing that much i am bored. I really did not like this one bit im surprised i even made it to the end but i hate to leave a film unwatched and i always try to give it a fair chance to redeem its self right to the end but this failed to do that it only made me want to have a little mini purge of my own. Every character is this is just annoying not one person has anything to offer making it impossible for me to care about the family that are being held hostage in their own home. I have heard the purge 2 is a much better film i might give it a shot and see surely it cant be as bad as this one. The time i wasted watching this could of been spent watching the Man With The Severed Head ;)

Hard to give a score its just a bad film that i would never watch again.:headache:

You should give The Purge: Anarchy a watch. A completely different type of film. A lot like Escape From New York, and the main character, Sarge, played by Frank Grillo, is essentially The Punisher in disguise.

I watched this recently as well, whilst being both bland and annoying there was one scene that I really liked due to how unexpected it played out. It's the scene when the mum is grabbed by a male and female couple and pinned to the ground in what looks like the start of a sexual assault however they tickle her instead!

keirarts 24th August 2015 06:48 AM

Valerie and her week of wonders

An old favourite from the Redemption VHS days brought back to life by the Criterion collection. It's a strange, surreal coming of age drama that plays like a weird mixture of fairy tale & gothic horror. The film has one of the creepiest vampires (or is it the devil himself?) outside of nosferatu, religious hysteria that would not seem out of place in a Ken Russell picture and plenty of strange sensual imagery. Valerie is a film that really lingers in the mind after viewing and really needs several viewings to get everything in it.

Criterion's restoration looks absolutely stunning, its a real shame that its region locked, that said It's sure to be a ripe candidate for a UK release from someone like secondrun, Mr Bongo or Arrow academy.

I was distinctly underwhelmed by the first film, so didn't expect much from the sequel – with a few exceptions, sequels are generally inferior – but found Anarchy to be everything the first film should have been: thought-provoking, gripping and brutal.

This weekend I watched a few documentary films rather than feature films.

The Eyes of Tammy Faye

http://resizing.flixster.com/-pu-LEB...265428_ori.jpg

A very touching profile of Televangelist couple Tammy Faye and Jim Bakker who prove that the truth is stranger than fiction. I honestly thought as watching it, 'you couldn't write this...'. It starts off simply enough with the back stories of how they met and how they help start christian TV and then get ousted from their own shows only to start a network of their own to be ousted again! Third time lucky they created what turned out to be the largest Christian TV satellite network in the world, however then things start to crumble in a very spectacular way!
Now I'm not a christian, I have no interest in religion at all but I was hooked to this story as it began to unfold and I came out of it a fan of Tammy Faye and felt quite saddened by the outcome.
This comes highly recommended by me but I found it a little difficult to locate as it's OOP on DVD but it's worth a go!

Atari: Game Over

http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7557/1...11a89e2d_m.jpg

Watching this the morning after Tammy Faye was detrimental to my enjoyment. It was still a highly interesting and engaging documentary about the meteoric rise of Atari and it's spectacular demise after release the infamous ET game cartridge which has been voted the worst game ever by many critics and polls. It follows a guy who is intrigued by the urban myth that 'millions of cartridges' are buried in the Californian desert. Determined to discover the bounty he goes on a quest to uncover the landfill site and find the cartridges.
It includes talking heads with people from Atari, town council members from the place where the landfill is, authors, game designers, and probably most interesting is the man who designed the ET game and it credited with destroying Atari!
This one is on Netflix so it's easy to see if you have 80 mins to spare.

Aside from these 2 I watched 3 of the special feature docs on the Videodrome disc;
David Cronenberg and the Cinema of the Extreme
Forging the New Flesh
Fear on Film

All very good but since they total near 90 mins in total, I could have just watched the film itself!

Demoncrat 24th August 2015 12:44 PM

Don't think Murderrock has ever been on british TV??

Ahem.

Watched.....

The Avengers:Age Of Ultron (2015, Joss Whedon)
Now I did read a lot of Avengers in my youth, but I don't recall The Hulk falling in love with Black Widow!! Villian half baked (literally), it has no impetus, it just keeps on going...somewhat like

Ted 2 (Seth MacbloodyFarlane, 2014)
MAKE A BLOODY MUSICAL THEN!!

The Punisher: War Zone (2008, Lexi Alexander)
This is more like it!!! More fun than the shitey Thomas Jane remake, Dominic West great fun as Jigsaw (NOT THAT ONE ) and the violence is a hoot. Speaking of hoots....

Homicycle (2014, Brett Kelly)
No budget trash possibly made by three metal bands in their spare time?? Somewhat resembling The Wraith, if you watched that whilst sniffing petrol that is  The villian is to die for, and the editing takes the biscuit. Recommended to the spinsters of this parish who glom on such pieces of crud.

Chow Yun Fat and Wong Jing return to the gambling movie with mixed results.
Overall this is an entertaining film but it certainly doesn't compare too favourable to it's famous predecessors "God of Gamblers" and "Return of the God of Gamblers".
Still it's the best we can expect from a HK movie nowadays I guess and it has moments where it almost reaches the level of the old classics.
The excessive use of cgi at the most inappropriate of moments (like the gambling scenes) is a letdown though.

Now watching this which is another movie which I was not expecting much but really enjoying it. The story of a ship that goes missing on the way to Europa to look for signs of life, done in the style of a lost footage as the story is told by mission logs and old interviews and news reports. This hard science fiction which is a nice change from the usual alien invasion etc films. Not going to be in the same calibre as interstellar or 2001 but still an enjoyable affair and at the moment would give it an 8/10

Frankie Teardrop 24th August 2015 08:09 PM

BRAIN DAMAGE – I never get fed up of watching 'Brain Damage', Frank Henenlotter's ode to singing parasites. You probably all know the tale of Brian and his psychedelic encounter with said crooner, so I won't recount it here. When I saw it the other day I found it to be as mesmerising as ever, awash with cheap eighties fried-looking visuals for the druuuug bits, obligatory splatter, and, most crucially for a Henenlotter film, the total scuzziness of period NYC. So many scenes stand out – panting brains in the restaurant, shenanigans in flea ridden junkie hotel, fatal BJ with monster phallus soundtracked by The Swimming Pool Qs at the back of some godforsaken grime haven (name - 'Hell'!), and, let's not forget, 'Elmer's Tune'. Always a delight to revisit.

FLESH FOR THE BEAST – Another one I hadn't seen for a while. 'Flesh For The Beast' doesn't have a very good rep (or much of any kind of rep, really), but I thought it delivered. Delivered what, though? Well, it's kind of trashy, and kind of lame – a bunch of 'paranormal investigators' (yawn already) snoop around in a house where something bad happened. There are three sisterly looking young women around who turn out to be demons or etc etc, and blood is spilled. 'Flesh For The Beast' predates somewhat the mid-noughties thing for grindhouse affectation, so the film is deliberately scuzzed up with superposed crackles and grain. Surprisingly this seems to work rather well, and gives the whole thing the murkily oppressive edge of a knackered 16mm relic from the early eighties. There's also an abundance of gore and bad nudity and a few blurts of hysteria such as a shag / stabbing surrounded by demented close ups of the faces of toys and dolls woooohhh. The bit with the demonesses cavorting nekkid amongst some dudes entrails was also quite erm heightened. 'Flesh For The Beast' – a wretched piece of spew which I'd welcome back any day.

HAUTE TENSION – Is this film a splitter? Loads of people don't seem to like it very much. I mean, to the point of seeming infuriated by it. I mentioned it to my colleague at The Facility the other day, and he pretty much spat at me. I've always thought of it as being quite good. Admittedly, once you've seen the ending, there's no going back. And it's kind of downhill from there as far as repeat viewings go, as gaping holes in the film's logic become painfully apparent. You could say in its defence that it's all in someone's head ultimately, and that subjective craziness justifies any such lapses. Whatever, I'm not really bothered by that kind of thing anyway. I always get something out of 'Haute Tension' and I must've seen it four or five times now. I'm frequently a little underwhelmed by the violence, it being touted as a flagship of the New French Extremity back in the day. HT is pretty gory though, with that brutal stairwell decap and various other bits from Mr DeRossi. Weirdly, I think it IS a film designed to be watched several times – you can forget the plot devices and focus on little spurts of strangeness, such as the deformed face emblem that seemed to keep cropping up when I saw it this time, which gave the film a more dream-like edge than previously.

Orc Wars.

I caught this on the Horror Channel or rather it caught me...This is one dumb and fun film that pits a soldier suffering with post traumatic stress against an army of dimension travelling orcs! Throw in a dragon, increasingly larger and larger firearms, a blind mystical Native American and 90 minutes flies by in sprays of black cgi orc blood and shit blowing up. Vastly superior to Peter Jackson's recent midget fetish outings.

I really like Flesh for the Beast and agree with everything you say Frankie.

I've got two copies of it and both are different. It's not that either are cut but they are seemingly filmed from different camera angles.
