Favourite Childhood TV and Films I noticed a lot of people got into talking about their favourite shows as kids on other threads. So I thought why not create a new thread solely for this purpose. Does anyone remember Bravestarr? I used to love this cartoon as a kid. It really was essential viewing for me. What are your favourite childhood TV shows or films and why? |

i remember brave star, he had an awesome gun, and his horse had a shot gun. thats right his HORSE had a SHOTGUN. This was on around the same time as Jayce and the Wheeled Warriors and Galaxy Rangers, 80s cartoons ruled, none of this In the night garden crap they have for kids these days. the only thing we 80s kids had that was educational was Stop, Look and listen and a bit of rainbow at lunch times. Kids don't know what they missed these days... About In the night garden? has anyone seen this, if you haven't you should really check it out and see if you can understand what the hell is going on... |

Never heard of In The Night Garden, bit too modern for me I think ;) I used to watch a cartoon called Ulysses 31. Anyone remember this? I even remember the theme tune, I'm singing it now  It was always on about 6am so me and my brother used to get up really early and sneak downstairs to watch it before we went to school. Oh the easy days of life |
Quote:
I believe it was a co-French/Japanese production and was readily available on DVD in the UK (my brother bought the boxset) but I believe it's now deleted & sells in excess of £50 from certain marketplace traders. |
I really like Ulysses 31 :D My childhood favourites were: The Real Ghostbusters Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Thundercats He-Man The Visionaries Defenders of the Earth Fresh Prince of Bel Air Knightmare! Art Attack/finders keepers (neil buchanan) Timmy Mallet Funhouse with the legendary Pat Sharp and of course WWF wrestling!! I was also addicted to Home and Away & Shortland Street (anyone remember that!?) when I was a kid, which is wierd cause soap operas bore the crap out of me now!) I used to hate CBBC (especially Blue Peter) with a passion and love CITV :p Used to love The Lone Ranger & Rawhide & Lost in Space ("Never fear, Smith is here!" :p) & Planet of the Ape re-runs on sundays as a kid. Ahh happy memories ps. Unfortunately I was too young for Magnum PI and Quincy ME but I have since made up for lost time :D |
i remember shortland street, it was set in an australian hospital right...i wasn't a big fan of CITV but enjoyed art attack and Woof, CBBC was the coolest in the early to mid 90s withc shows such as Bodger and badger, MUD (with a young Russell Brand), Pirates of darkwater, peter pan and the pirates and maid marion and her merry men...oh the memories |

funny you mention Eerie indiana, im halfway through watching it at the moment, it must have been at least 10 years since i'd seen it and i remember every episode so far. Joe Dante Directed the pilot and some other episodes as well as being creative consultant and the great dick miller who never ages showed up in one. Absolute classic show, shame it got cancelled after 19 episodes... |
Oh dear. All you younglings. Nobody else remember Stig of the Dump or how about The Red Hand Gang? |
Antmumford don't know if you know or not but the 2 Seasons of BLACKSTARR are availible on DVD. Pedromonkey,Yeah iliked EERIE INDIANA as well I think one of the major reasons iit didn't do so well and got cancelled was was when it originally aired they moved it all different day and different times. Did you see the second series EERIE INDIANA :The Other Dimension? |
the one that got cancelled after 8 episodes in 1995?...no never did... Omri Katz who played Marshal Teller in the original series is now a hair dresser. random or what? |
Loved Monkey and Diff'rent Strokes growing up and still love them now. Cartoon wise, loved GI Joe, M.A.S.K. Thundercats, TMNT, Transformers, Ewoks and Droids. |
Thinking back, maybe I watched too much television as a child. Might explain why I'm not right in the head. on a regular basis: Thundercats G.I. Joe Scooby Doo He-Man Danger Mouse Transformers Beetlejuice The Real Ghostbusters M.A.S.K. Dingbat and the Creeps Smurfs Dungeons & Dragons Captain Cavemen Robotech The Frankenstones Defenders of the Earth Inspector Gadget Schoolhouse Rock Voltron Jem and the Holograms Silverhawks Visionaries and I also remember the short-lived Robocop cartoon and today, I'll watch Grim Adventures of Billy & Mandy when given the chance. |
|
regular television: The Addams Family The Munsters A-Team The Little Rascals The Three Stooges Knightrider Battlestar Galactica Married with Children Greatest American Hero Tales from the Darkside Tales from the Crypt 21 Jump Street Twilight Zone Star Trek The Young Ones Alien Nation The Wonder Years Gimme A Break Monsters Small Wonder as for films: pretty much everything horror/cult related -- I was a strange child -- and many received repeat viewings, especially Garbage Pail Kids Movie. I'm sure there are plenty others but can't think of them all. |

A couple of films that stood out were - "The Amazing Mr Blunden" (superlative kids ghost story with a top cast) and "Escape from the Dark" (top notch tearjerker about pit ponies). On TV I used to like "Pitkins", "Robbie's Robots", "Michael Bentine's Potty Time", "The Double Deckers", "Banana Splits", "Fingermouse", "Robinson Crusoe", "The Flashing Blade". That's late childhood TV as opposed to teenage years TV. |

And I forgot all about Silver Spoons. Yes, I watched that also. I also remembering watching Dark Shadows Captain Kangaroo Carol Burnett Show Reading Rainbow The Monkees I really aught to be embarrassed of myself. I watched too much television. I can't believe I made into adulthood. |
I dont have a particular favourite memory of any childhood tv/film viewing but I remember vividly The singing ringing tree,I`m sure it was split into 3 or 4 episodes on BBC way back in the day, very surreal and quite frightening in a fairytale kinda way. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0052199/ |
Saturday mornings for me comprised of the Mr Men, Robinson Crusoe (interspersed on occasions with The Flashing Blade), the Double Deckers and the legend that was Tiswas. |
CBBC has recently resurrected Swapshop in a new kind of way with some dude called barney and basil brush...Boom Boom!!! i only know so much about current TV shows because i only have six freeview channels on my telly and two of them are CBBC an CBBies, Although CBBC soes have Dick and Dom, the most insane and quite franky ****ed up hilarious kids show on TV...utter madness.... |
