Does The Card Player count?

iluvdvds@Cult Labs 17th April 2011 11:42 AM

Don't forget Cannibal Holocaust - that was thought to be a snuff film until proven otherwise.

Depends what you class as a snuff film, I guess films like Faces of Death and the Murder Collection aren't technically faux-snuff films.

Mute Witness (1994).
Recommended. ;)

Hostel, and obviously Hostel Part 2

necroluciferia 17th April 2011 12:10 PM

It's a theme I find fascinating and disturbing. Flowers OF Flesh and Blood and Devil's Experiment are two others that spring to mind.

Couple on that list I haven't seen and am now torrenting Tumbling Doll Of Flesh and Poughkeepsie Tapes as both sound very intriguing :)

Kyle 17th April 2011 06:25 PM

@ demdike wouldnt count the hostels in with them as they wernt being filmed , never seen card player

@ iluv cannibal holocaust i was unsure if cannibal holocaust counted too

@ bdc i have mute witness, might watch it tonight :)

@necro the first 2 guinea pigs i forgot to put on :P and the Poughkeepsie Tapes and tumbling doll are great but just so you know, tumbling is pretty rough if your not used to that kind of film

more than likely ill love it as i most films with this theme, just something really hits home with this type of film and it has me worrying unnecessarily about if its going to happen to me or people i care about

which is why i love them :)

necroluciferia 17th April 2011 08:05 PM

Just finished watching Poughkeepsie. I found the ending particularly disturbing, really shows how fragile the human psyche is and how easily a person can be broken. Great film.

Now for Tumbling Dolls...

Best Snuff related films

The best ones i saw (and i say that with caution), were the August Underground trilogy. When i lived in Seattle, I had my ex's sister download them as i wanted to see what they were like, as i had heard the storm over them and seen a review in Dvd World magazine.

If it's Snuff you want to see, you should get them on Import (If you can get them through customs) as they will NOt BE SEEN in the UK. I found them an uncomfortable experience to watch, but if the idea was to make movies like that, then they succeded in their goal.

there is also the movie SNUFF-which is incredibly bad, but wortha watch once.....I did see it got passed uncut by the BBFC a few years ago and was due out on dvd, but it never appeared.

I'm a big fan of the "Amateur Porn Star Killer" trilogy. The first one I found highly disturbing even though it lacks any on screen violence or gore. Basically, it's a killer with a camera spending 90 minutes seducing a girl before he kills her off screen. Most of the film is done in two really long shots, one about 40 minutes without an edit and another at around 30 minutes, again with no edit.

The second film has on screen violence but again no gore but increases the amount of real sex, leading to a see it to believe it final of the killer strangling his victim whilst filming himself penetrating her. The third is a bit like the second film but with more locations.

The first film has pretensions to art house cinema but the second two have the feeling of 70s roughie porn like "The Taming of Rebecca".

Rotten 17th April 2011 08:55 PM

Hmmmmm

I must check those out

bizarre_eye@Cult Labs 17th April 2011 09:02 PM

I wrote a (very) short review of the first Amateur Porn Star Killer as part of my Halloween movie marathon in 2009. Not very informative, but there are also some screen-caps.

Rotten 17th April 2011 09:06 PM

Review

I must go read that, will help me make up my mind to part with the cash to check them out

Ahh certainly didn't disappoint! I especially liked the tongue scene, and the intestine-f&%*ing scene was pretty cool  Shame about the fogging :mmph:

Demdike@Cult Labs 17th April 2011 09:56 PM

Not a snuff film , however i would recomend Scrapbook to you Slicer. Unsettling viewing.

You most likely have it though.

hahaha awesome, glad you liked it :) fogging always annoys me, its daft really that they can show all that they do but heaven forbid you see an erect penis or penetration

@rotten i have the august underground trilogy and love them , used to have the ltd to 1000 snuff editions but now just got all 3 of my normal editions signed by fred vogel.

@make them die slowly i always wanted to check out Amateur Porn Star Killer just never got around to it.

The Taming of Rebecca is a great film, i have really been getting into the 70's roughies just lately.

i just watched mute witness such a great film! glad i watched it now, thanks bdc :woot:

Guinea pig, August Underground trilogy, Niku Daruma etc. are not Snuff themed. just cause they contain people filming murder does not constitute snuff.

Another one not mentioned is Bruno Mattei's Snuff Trap- very sleazy

your right but its a fine line, the only difference is that they might not be filming with the intention of selling but for some of the films eg niku daruma i haven't got a clue what is being said in the film .

id say so. can i just say out of slicer's original list, i hadnt seen 3 (tumbling doll... especially)...thought SNUFF 102 was really vile, though watching it two days after a funeral wasnt such a good idea AHEM. saw GP etc years ago, would you recommend this TDOF then??

Pete 18th April 2011 12:17 PM

EFFECTS is a great little film, I recommend the Synapse DVD to anyone who hasn't seen it.

if you thought Snuff 102 was vile then TDOF will defo be not a nice film to watch, at least with snuff 102 there is a kind plot to it, with TDOF its just nastiness most of the way through and the plot is

guys making a porn with a girl, the girl gets fed up with it and tries to leave, the guys hit her on the head take back to the bed, start to chop her up and rape her for a long time! the end.

You'd have to be seriously living on cloud cookoo land to even bother submitting that one to the BBFC! I'd love to see their verdict for TDOF

Effects added to the 'to watch' list ;)

Alec Guinness (yes, Obe Wan) as the dude in the car at the end. I believe it was one of his last films. Apparently he appeared in the film as a favour.

Thanks for the recommendation - just went and picked it up on Amazon for 82p :woot: . Actually, reading the synopsis, I have a feeling I may have actually seen it, so will be interesting to find out. Amazing to think that Fay Ripley now does adverts for Tesco  .

I know it's not nearly in the same league as some of those films already mentioned, but what about Vacancy? I really enjoyed that one  . Some of the 'tapes' on the DVD extras are actually surpisingly brutal. I haven't seen the sequal, but interesting to note that one is an 18 when the original was only a 15 ...

My Little Eye is an awesome film; saw that one at the pictures when it first came out and it is still one of my favourites  .

Why do you think those films mentioned are not snuff themed?
