SHAM034 - House on the Edge of the Park: The Archive Conversation

Shameless Screen Entertainment is proud to announce that SHAM034 will be none other than Ruggero Deodato's House on the Edge of the Park starring David Hess and Giovanni Lombardo Radice, to be released on DVD on 31 October 2011.

Confirmed special features for this former nasty are:
  • Brand new special introduction to the film by David Hess
  • Brand new (and very lively!) interview with David Hess.
Shameless have not yet submitted the film to the BBFC but intend to submit to a BBFC advisory board first, as they did with Cannibal Holocaust - more on this as it happens!

Great news, I would buy it purely for the artwork and new features,as i cant see the uncut version being released here in the uk. I have an uncut version and the awful Vipco butcher job, so will wait with bated breath to hearwhat kindof cut the bbfcwill settle for..........why dont you sign the copies of this,Sarah?

Argentofan 18th April 2011 03:05 PM

Great news. :D Was going to import this but I think I'll just wait for the shameless disc now.

Demdike@Cult Labs 18th April 2011 03:06 PM

It will be very interesting to see what the BBFC make of this.

It will. Especially considering their surprising decision for Cannibal Holocaust.

necroluciferia 18th April 2011 03:08 PM

Curious to see what happens with the BBFC. As I already have the uncut DVD I think I will pass on this one though.

Argentofan 18th April 2011 03:09 PM

11 minutes cut out of the Vipco release!

sghawken 18th April 2011 03:09 PM

In light of recent events, I feel confident this will get through unscathed!

Good to see you on here Spence!

Demdike@Cult Labs 18th April 2011 03:22 PM

Last House on the Left is now uncut, but I Spit ... still suffers from the censors, i think House ...... will have a few seconds cut at least, as it is pretty much relentless terror from the moment Hess and Morghen enter the party.

iluvdvds@Cult Labs 18th April 2011 03:26 PM

This is just superb news! A great film that rivals The Last House on the Left - it's definetly much more sleazy/disturbing imo. Shameless are going Ruggero mad. :woot:

Rotten 18th April 2011 03:28 PM

true Demdike, i think at least 5 mins of cuts now compared to Vipco's 11 minute butcher job

Last House on the Left is still not available uncut in the UK because of the BBFC's policy on sexualised violence -- they have problems with the forced urination. However, in light of the advisory board's ruling on Cannibal Holocaust, I hope things have changed in Soho Square and this will get through unscathed.

It's a great decision by Shameless -- the more Deodato, the better!

Last House is uncut in the uk, Ihave the recent 3 disc set from Metrodome, and this is uncut

I didn't realise that -- I just checked the BBFC website and was surprised that both Last House on the Left and Krug and Company had been passed uncut. The BBFC are proving to be quite progressive so there is hope for House on the Edge of the Park following the BBFC's decisions on this and Cannibal Holocaust.

Yeah, its so easy these days with so many re-issues to see how these things slip through un noticed..........the Metrodome dvd set is brilliant, especially with the fearture length Slasher doc, Going To Peices included with it

Its a brilliant set, the Going to Pieces disc is probably my fave documentary, and that includes Nucleus Films Nasties doc.

bizarre_eye@Cult Labs 18th April 2011 04:30 PM

Absolutely fantastic news - this one is a not-so-guilty pleasure of mine, and if it passes uncut, it's bye bye AWE disc!

Even though this 'borrows' The Last House on the Left's formula (itself borrowing heavily from Bergman's epic The Virgin Spring, of course ;)), I MUCH prefer THOTEOTP to the original Last House, which I feel is terribly overrated.

Yeah, i love it, The Nasties doc from Nucleus isgood, but i enjoyed the Ban The Sadist Videos from Anchor Bay better.....although Nucleus's other discs in their Nasties set were second to none. I remember the era, andseeing some of those movies as a 4 year old on vhs when my parents got a vcr.......so many memories of the packaging and the controversy!

Nosferatu, if you keep an eye out on Amazon you can pick it up for a fiver sometimes (as i was fortunate to do in October) - its a tenner at the moment.

Ignore the reviews as they are not all for this version.

nekromantik 18th April 2011 04:44 PM

yeah I own that set too :)

and I dunno about this getting through as they still didnt pass I spit both versions uncut.

Jaimie 18th April 2011 04:46 PM

While I applaud Shameless for re-issuing films that have previously been given rubbish UK releases, I have a horrible feeling that this won't be getting through the BBFC unscathed.

One immediate bone of contention that springs to mind would be the razor blade / naked women scene...

I wish Shameless luck with this and if it scraps through uncut, then I will be getting it.

I Spit will never get through uncut as we know, (i bought mine in the usa, uncut), I dont think the mutilation of Cindy in house on edge will be passed either, as she is very young in it.

here's hoping for good news, though, and some nice packaging. My uncut version of this is on the ANOTHER WORLD label, and has a 15 rating, it is dutch, and isuncut, running at 91 minutes. Much like my double disc OUVAGREN (aka The Sinful Dwarf),which has 2 versions of the film, one cut fro sex,and the other Pornographic version.

I saw that when it was on Sky Movies some time ago and I think it's still on my V+ box. It's a great documentary and one I'd like to watch again.

Thanks for the heads up -- I'll keep an eye out for any dips in price.

yeah I own the EC entertainment disc of edge . :)

darthelvis 18th April 2011 05:21 PM

I think this will make it through uncut, great to see it getting a UK release!

Rotten 18th April 2011 05:22 PM

i know the one, Nekromantic, whats the print like?

Pete 18th April 2011 05:28 PM

This won't get through uncut, the scene in which Hess tortures the 'virgin' with the razor will almost certainly be cut

Interview aside this is a pointless release IMO.

I have this release and the print is very decent. I prefer the Shriek Show / EC artwork, though.

A scene which, IMO, Deodato 'borrowed' from the climax to Beast with a Gun.

I'd be very surprised if this passes uncut, as it features that big BBFC no-no, a woman being raped and then starts to enjoy it. They really don't like that and was one of the main reasons Straw Dogs was consistently frowned upon.

Will Deodato be supervising a new edit?

[COLOR="Cyan"]just re watched the uncut version, and am guessing just the scene with Cindy being sliced with a razor (the virgin scene) would be cut nowadays/COLOR]

Stranger things have happened Dae!

I take my hat off to Shameless for having the bottle to go for this uncut.
It's a very brave move.

Here's hoping!
