Post Your Favourite Record Sleeves!

This thread is for all those who love old-fashioned records and their - very often - great sleeves. :)

Let's concentrate on the good old days - i.e. from the 50s till the end of the 70s.

As Monty Python say: take it away, Genghis!

Greetings!

PS: You could also post pictures of your own records - e.g. if you have rare signed copies, or records that have never been released on Compact Disc! :)

One of the first records i bought was Black Sabbath Greatest Hits.

The painting is called The Triumph of Death by Pieter Bruegel in 1562.

The artwork both fascinated and horrified me as an early teen. The painting depicts skeletons raping amd murdering a small medieval village.

The top image blows up so you can see the gruesome goings on.

I love the sleeve Prince, but I'm not a huge fan of the record.

Speaking of Prince, what an album cover! This how you set out a statement of intent! If anyone was shocked by what they got on this album, then they should've paid a bit of attention to the photo!

Impressive painting!

Speaking of Black Sabbath - this Hipgnosis artwork has a morbid touch...I can't tell you why, but it always makes me feel uneasy...:behindsofa:

With a potentially great design for the Wicker Man single, they come up with this. WTF?

There is another version with Eddie as the Wicker Man, it's miles better than that.

Best one has to be Somewhere In Time, so many hidden references thrown in there, but I do love this one, and the album itself

Great record sleeves are so easy to design!

But sometimes you need a talented painter...

I love Motorhead and their mascot Snaggletooth, which is the main centrepiece of most of their covers.

These immediately spring to mind:

:Wumpscut: - Evoke (Limited Box)

Maniac Soundtrack

KMFDM - UAIOE

Most of my vinyl is still at my Mum's, so even though I pretty much know what I have, I can't recall all the covers. I only have a small collection (about 30 or so).

That's alright, as there are quite a few lads today who don't even know what a record looks like!

Here's one of my personal favourites:

For any Dead Can Dance fans here... some light shed on the mysterious cover of their Spleen & Ideal LP...

http://covers.a-go.in/min/dead_can_d..._and_ideal.jpg

The pic below was posted in a DCD forum....

The photo shows a old dock warehouse located in Salford on what used to be a very busy part of the Manchester Ship Canal. Most buildings were levelled in the 70/80's this photo is about 1982. You might know this area as Salford Quays now

I know this, I won't spoil it for everyone though. This was a question in a music quiz I used to do in my local pub, getting this right won me and my team 8 pints each and future wins resulting in me being banned from entering as it wasn't fair on everyone else!
P.S I named my oldest son after this chap :)

Don't the feet belong to a Travelling Wilbury ?

Remember seeing it featured in Classic Rock mag years ago.

I don't know about good album covers, but here's a selection of some truly awful ones for your amusement....

http://zonicweb.net/badalbmcvrs/heino.jpghttp://zonicweb.net/badalbmcvrs/celebration.jpg

Both of those leave me speechless. I can't think of anything witty to say, they speak for themselves.

http://zonicweb.net/badalbmcvrs/letmetouch.jpghttp://zonicweb.net/badalbmcvrs/dove.jpg

Good grief, those old men want to touch him. That doesn't sound good. And who gives somebody a dove for a present?

http://zonicweb.net/badalbmcvrs/louvin.jpghttp://zonicweb.net/badalbmcvrs/cuntrychurch.jpg

Those dang Louvin Bros knows that Satan is real - because they've gone to hell! Should've stuck it out in the Country Church lads.

http://zonicweb.net/badalbmcvrs/karatist.jpghttp://zonicweb.net/badalbmcvrs/gaydogs.jpg

Yay! Kung Fu Preachers and....gay dogs? WTF?

And, finally, this one. I'm lost for words....
