Now the case for the defence.....

I watched Scream Factory's DOG SOLDIERS yesterday and it was the clearest it has ever looked. You can actually see what's going on in the dark.
The difference in this 4k twenty year old film was amazing.

I've owned this on every format since it's release (I've still to compare the Second Sight disc) and this release is the best it's going to get.:)

I understand what you are saying Reaps but Dog Soldiers isn't a good example. The massive jump in clarity is down to the fact the new 4K scan is from the recently found original camera negative whilst all the previous releases have been bog-standard prints. You were bound to get a massive jump in clarity even if it had been a BR-only release.

I do understand the desire for UHDs. However, if I was to upgrade my collection every time one was issued I'd have no money for releases of films I'd never seen before. If there are others like me but are inclined towards the UHD upgrades then that has to hit sales of more obsure titles doesn't it?

Personally, I'm (mostly) only buying 4Ks of films I don't already have in any HD format unless it's proven to have a far superior transfer or it's a firm favourite of mine. I just couldn't afford to get all of the new 4Ks coming out, especially now as they are gaining momentum and more and more it's a UHD of a film which has very recently had a new remastered bluray which already looks perfectly fine.

Believe it or not I hadn't ever seen Dog Soldiers previously (I had mistaken it for the Jamie Bell Doomwatch film) and it does look fantastic. Sometimes though the difference between BD and the UHD is minimal and at least £10 dearer! Even more with this current trend of a hard box and 60 page booklet, poster and art cards which you look at the day you buy and then never again

That being said though, there are some bloody good looking UHDs out there, Jaws for example!

Have pre-ordered Black Christmas from an eBay seller (given Scream don't ship overseas). How many copies have that movie will I have then? :skull:

Nuno_Miranda 12th October 2022 06:31 PM

Three times already I've went through the checkout process at Amazon US to get The Company of Wolves, but in the end I give up because I cannot possibly justify the €50 total cost. As much as I absolutely love this film! Maybe it will be reissued just for Blu-ray, without the 4K disc, which might make it a little less costly?
