Weekly Comp - Dawn or Day Of The Dead -19/09/2010 - FINISHED

Hello everyone!

It's time for another weekly competition here at Cult Labs, but unlike the last comp, this one has a much MUCH slower pace, but with an EVEN better prize! Yes, George A. Romero's Dawn Of The Dead and Day Of The Dead are up for grabs this week - and it's the DVD versions! So, for all those without a Blu-Ray player, you won't want to miss this comp - the DVDs are beautiful full of extras and sooo much more!

Dawn Of The Dead

http://i319.photobucket.com/albums/m...wn_OTD_DVD.jpg

THE DEFINITIVE DVD EDITION OF ROMERO'S CLASSIC ZOMBIE SHOCKER

From Arrow Video comes the ultimate four-disc DVD edition of George A. Romero's Dawn Of The Dead featuring three different cuts of the feature presentation plus a whole host of specially produced extras previously only available on Arrow Video’s Blu-ray release of the film.

A National Emergency grips the US as the zombie population grows at an inexplicable and alarming rate. Two Philadelphia Police S.W.A.T. officers, a helicopter pilot and his TV reporter girlfriend escape the city and take refuge in an abandoned, suburban shopping mall after securing it following a series of brutal confrontations with the undead. Their survival is threatened when a band of looters leave a door open allowing the zombies access to the mall once more.

The first sequel to George A. Romero's seminal 1968 zombie classic "Night Of The Living Dead", the equally powerful and apocalyptic Dawn Of The Dead was hailed by respected film critic Roger Ebert as "One of the best horror films ever made."

The four-disc Dawn Of The Dead (cert. 18) will be released on DVD (£19.99) by Arrow Video on 20th September 2010.

Features include: George A. Romero approved theatrical cut of feature presentation; audio commentary by George A. Romero, Tom Savini and Chris Romero; audio commentary by Richard P. Rubinstein; Document Of The Dead documentary plus The Lost Interview and deleted scenes; Fan of the Dead; Director’s Cut of feature presentation; The Dead Will Walk documentary; Dario Argento Cut of feature presentation; US and German trailers; TV and radio spots; reviews Giallo trailers; Scream Greats documentary on Tom Savini; four sleeve art options; double-sided fold out poster; For Every Night There Is A Dawn collector’s booklet.

Day Of The Dead

http://i319.photobucket.com/albums/m...ay_OTD_DVD.jpg

THE ULTIMATE TWO-DISC DVD EDITION PACKED WITH A HOST OF WORLD EXCLUSIVE EXTRA FEATURES.

From Arrow Video comes the ultimate two-disc DVD edition of George A. Romero's Day Of The Dead featuring a whole host of specially produced, world exclusive extras previously only available on Arrow Video’s 25th Anniversary Edition Blu-ray release of the film.

In this, the third instalment in Romero’s ongoing zombie saga, the living dead have now taken over the world and only small pockets of human resistance survive. One such group of desperate survivors, a motley crew of scientists and soldiers, are holed up in a 14-mile long underground missile silo. As the scientists experiment on forcibly captured zombie specimens to try and find a way to control them, the soldiers become increasingly impatient with the lack of results and are eager to wage an all-out war on the undead. Soon, the tension between the two human camps erupts into a violent situation that is only overshadowed by the vicious zombie slaughter that surrounds them.

Easily the bleakest, goriest and most chilling of Romero’s zombie movies to date, Day Of The Dead sees Tom Savini and his special effects team hitting an all-time career high with an endless succession of super-realistic flesh tearing, bone snapping, gut spilling mayhem that for some viewers will prove almost too much to endure. The setting within a seemingly endless series of underground caverns adds an unbearable tension to a movie that is still as shockingly violent and claustrophobic today as it was twenty-five years ago.

The two-disc Day Of The Dead (cert. 18) will be released on DVD (£19.99) by Arrow Video on 13th September 2010.

Features include: audio commentary by special effects team members Greg Nicotero, Howard Berger, Everett Burrell and Mike Deak; Joe Of The Dead documentary; Travelogue Of The Dead; The Many Days Of Day Of The Dead documentary; Behind The Zombies footage; Romero Zombography; Photo Album Of The Dead; Souvenirs Of The Dead; Night… and Dawn… trailers; The Audio Recollections Of Richard Liberty; TV Ads Of The Dead; Wampum mine promo; two sleeve art options; double sided fold out poster; Day Of The Dead: Desertion – exclusive 24-page collector's comic book featuring new 'Bub' storyline; For Every Dawn There Is A Day collector's booklet.

So how do you win?

George A. Romero >>>>> Romero>>>> Romeo>>>> Shakespeare>>>>Weekly Comp!

As you may know zombies have recently blended with famous works of literature, from Alice In Zombieland Scrooge: A Zombie Christmas Carol, War Of The Worlds And Blood And Guts And Zombies, and most famously Pride And Prejudice And Zombies. So, all you have to do is come up with one of your own. A classic work of art (literature/painting/whatever) but a zombie version. What would it be called? You could add a synopsis or something similar if you wish. The three funniest and most innovative entries will win this comp and they'll each be able to choose whether they'd like Dawn or Day on DVD! Simple!

Winners will be announced next sunday and anyone can enter as many times as they like. :)

Good luck!

On The Origin Of Zombies

By Means of Un-Natural Selection

Dr Logan’s ground breaking tomb on the origins and evolution of zombies. Starting with an in depth look at the accident that created the first of these creatures. Logan then tracks there development from mindless shambling, brain munching animated flesh though to growingly self aware monsters of human creation.

The study of Bub, a zombie trained by Dr Logan himself is one of the many highlights in this excellent book.

It’s just a shame that there are not many people left to read it.

JUST SINGING AND KILLING IN THE RAIN - A MUSICAL

Singing in the rain follows an actor at a big movie studio, at the dawn of the talkies who meets and falls in love with an unknown actress with a poweful singing voice, but she has to battle against the studios biggest female star. Unfortunately she is hired as the Vocalist on the movies as the female star cannot sing.

The new version takes place at the same time. An actor working for a major studio at the dawn of the talkies falls in love with an unknown actress with a powerful sing voice, but she has to battle against the studio's biggest female star. Unfortunately, due to a leak at near by government facility where some dubious research into chemical warefare happens. The toxins re-animate the corpses of the dead. not only must the unknown actress battle big female lead, she must along with the actor and his friend battle the living dead as a the storm of the century rages.

Key songs include....
Make 'em die
Good morning Good morning we killed the whole night through
Fight With a Fiddle
you were meant for meat
Moses supposes to mow down the dead

and the films main set piece.

A large song and dance number that involves the main actor, singing and Litterally killing in the rain with a machete. As the heads of the dead fly off and the blood sprays out like a geyser the rain turns red as he hacks and slashes his way to safety.

The end becomes an OTT vision of gore and music as they realise that the unknown actresses powerful voice has the ability to make the heads of the dead explode. The scene takes place in a theater as the dead scramble to get to the survivors on the stage.
(think Braindead with Roger's and Hammerstein music)

man i really want to see this film now..

Now this is sounding like fun, out of the hat, maybe some more come later, if my brain gives them... ;)

A Fistful of Zombies

Dusty is a gunslinger with a passion and some skills and recently he needed them. He quickly learned to hit zombies in the head to get rid of them - the usually preferred gut shot only ruins the carpet - if there is one to start with! Now we can follow the track of our favourite gunslinger across the dusty roads of the Wild Wild West, where only tumbleweed is pretty harmless.

For A Few Zombies More

Dusty is back and this time he is happy about the technical development since we last met him. They have invented trains, you know? And when you are low on ammunition, what fun can it be to use your lasso and tie some walkers to the rails and watch their skulls being crushed by the still pretty fresh steel wheels of them trains - come in and find out!

The Good, the Bad and the Uglies

Time has passed and the time was not really good to the walkers, which mostly have become crawlers by now as the rot has had strong impact on the few still around. Well, Dusty cannot be everywhere, folks! So what he does is creating a carnival-like thing where people can pay to shoot at them crawlers - guranteed gory greatness! Local imaginary mastermind Old George says that this could be well used some time in the future - if he only knew for what and how? So he decides to take note of that and inherits it to his offspring.

A mad scientist and a precious teenager pilot a Delorean time machine back to the future - a future overrun by zombies! Finding themselves without the power to get home, these two time travellers must fight the zombie hordes to find the 1.21 Gigawatts they need to get home again.

(and as far as I am concerned Back to the Future is a work of art! :tongue1:)

Zombian Rhapsody

Is this the afterlife?
Is this Fulci’s fantasy?
Caught in a strange lab
No escape from reality
Open your eye
Look up to the skies and see
I'm just a zombie
I need your sympathy
Because I'm easy come, easy go
Little high, little low
Any way the wind blows
Doesn't really matter to me, to me

Mama just ate a man
Put my teeth into his flesh
Ripped with vigour, now he's dead
Mama, life had just begun
But now I've gone and thrown it all away
Mama, ooh
Didn't mean to make you die
If I'm not back again this time tomorrow
Carry on, carry on cause I ate your fookin legs

Too late, my time has come
Sends shivers down my spine
Body's aching all the time
Goodbye, everybody
I've brains to eat
Gonna leave you all behind in pools of blood
Mama, oooooooh (Anyway the wind blows)
I didn't want to die
Sometimes wish I'd never been reborn at all

[Guitar Solo]

I see a little silhouetto of a man
Scaramouch, Scaramouch, will you do the Lucio Fulci
Thunderbolt and lightning, very, very frightening me
(Romero) Romero (Romero) Romero, Romero Argento
Danny Boyle oyle oyle oyle
I'm just a zombie nobody loves me
He's just a zombie from a poor family
Spare him he’s dead, he’s a monstrosity

Easy come, easy go, will you let me go?
Sam Raimi! No, we will not let you go
Let him go
Sam Raimi! We will not let you go
Let him go
Sam Raimi! We will not let you go
Let me go (Will not let you go)
Let me go (Will not let you go) (Never, never, never, never)
Let me go, o, o, o, o
No, no, no, no, no, no, no
(Oh mama mia, mama mia) Mama Mia, let me go
Beelzebub has the devil put aside for me, for me, for me!

So you think you can stone me and spit in my eye
So you think you can shoot me and leave me to die
Oh, baby, can't do this to me, baby
Just get back up, just get back up & bite your ass

[Guitar Solo]
(Oooh yeah, Oooh yeah)

Nothing really matters
Anyone can see
Nothing really matters
Nothing really matters to me

Any way the wind blows...
