Starcrash (1979)

I seriously love this film! The cheesy SFX, prime stilton acting and let's not forget Caroline Munro's skimpy outfits all add up to make this one of the most entertaining Sci-Fi flicks I've seen. :thumb:

I have the 2 disc French release of it that's signed by Luigi Cozzi. It's a shame it hasn't had a wider DVD release.

i used to watch this as a kid, i saw it not so long ago and my god is this film shocking, this is the one with the HOFF right.

DeadAlive 28th December 2009 08:44 AM

I remember seeing that one on VHS. It does star the Hoff....... and I remember it was terrible. Some of the worse effects and acting ever but failing to have a camp charm.

vincenzo 28th December 2009 11:12 AM

Great supporting cast (Bob Tessier, Joe Spinell etc) but precious little charm. What on earth inspired John Barry to score it?

DeadAlive 28th December 2009 12:51 PM

I think more money was spent on the score than the effects.

Paul 28th December 2009 07:19 PM

The Hoff™ had eyeliner that looked as if it was applied with a thick permanent marker.

Gigantor 29th December 2009 07:27 AM

I saw this movie a couple weeks back and besides some skimpy cotumes this is a seriously Cheesy movie.

Stephen@Cult Labs 29th December 2009 06:38 PM

Well.after watching this trailer,I've decided that I'd like to see Star Crash released by Shameless or Arrow. How about a nice boxset of cheesy sci-fi b-movies?

Paul 29th December 2009 09:31 PM

It's better than The Phantom Menace.;)

I jest.

Vampix 30th December 2009 12:22 PM

I've never seen Starcrash but I reckon I'd pick it up on the strength of the trailer alone, looks wonderfully cheesy.I had to have a chuckle at Christopher Plummer delivering those lines of his, he must have felt like a right plonker.

Wouldn't be hard.....

pedromonkey 30th December 2009 10:27 PM

right im going on the defensive for phantom menace... sure it's not the best film ever made and yes lucas created the worlds most annoying character in Jar jar Binks, but it has jedi's, aliens, light sabres and brian blessed. I actually really like the film, i saw it twice at the Cinema. so please Leave it alone. there are ten time worse sci-fi films out there including StarCrash....

"Starcrash" is and has always been one of my favourite all-time cult movies!

I first read about it in magazines like Fangoria, Starburst and Starlog back in the day and watched it one Xmas on ITV !!!

A bizarre but enjoyable movie!

wow, I just read that and I had forgotten this was on at Christmas,

I suddenly had a rush of 25 year old memories of being off school during the holidays watching this film and waiting for Christmas day.

fantastic times.

right that settles it, I'm off to buy the blu-ray of this film

This film is brilliant. Everything from the robot, the terrible effects and the incredible evil lame version of Ming right through to the beautiful and leather bikini clad Munro. I was in pure retro sci-fi heaven watching this. Some of the lines are so badly delivered by the bad guys it's almost a piece of art. 10/10.

:)

The new US dvd/bd releases are brilliant (and have loads of extras).
Love the John Barry soundtrack which perfectly fits the film.

Gortner
Spinell (dubbed)
Munro

about as cult as it gets surely???

Having seen quite a few SW knockoffs over the years ... I have to say this is one of the more coherent ones
