ANIME ON BLU-RAY!

13 Attachment(s)
Just thought i'd start a thread here where people can post their finds and wants for anime blu-ray releases. America seems to be well supplied with the uk once again lagging behind. Best example is the BLACK LAGOON blu-rays released as seperate series over here the americans get BOTH at roughly the same price!!!

Though none of the box sets contain the more recent third mini-series ROBERTAS BLOOD TRAIL.

I'll stick up a few pics of stuff i'm looking at at the moment. If I ever win the lottery i'm going to need a bigger house!

Could swear KAZE where releasing BL:RBT on BD...Blu-ray.com **** up again.
The Berzerk:EotK BD is steller, amazing animation. The Hellsing OVAs are getting re-released on BD also, ultra gore in HD! Also.I heard Kite and Meso Forte (non-XXX editions) where getting the BD treatment, being a fave of a certain Q.T.

I've been holding out on hellsing ultimate expecting a blu-ray release so thats good news, ordered the ltd edition version of berserk, and I have the dvd release double bill of mezzo and kite. Attachment 93993

The tv series of mezzo is well worth seeking out as well!

Hawkmonger 17th December 2012 03:18 PM

Frankley I've only watched the X versions of Kite and Meso Forte once each, they feel more awkward than any of the XXX scene's in Beast in Space! Also there not very good porn, so they fail on even a basic level. On an entertaining level there awsome, hyper violent beast that are awsome on every level. Not good like Samurai Champloo or Cowboy Bebop, but they have competant story line's and good (for the time) animation. There also 'Spiritual sisters' so belong together in any format. Epic double bill in HD awaits us.

Couple of recent pick ups:
I understand Penguindrum is coming from KAZE but only on DVD. I'm not sure, KAZE's DVD's are always over priced and I tend to have a knack at catching there BD's on the cheap so I dont know if i'll double dip.

ReturnToZero 8th March 2013 04:24 PM

This one looks kinda cool. Is it worth picking up?

It is indeed. The movies are poor incomparison to the first series but there still prity good for what they are, even if the similarity to Death Note is...uncanny.

Justin101 9th March 2013 08:13 AM

We should start a Death Note for blu-ray campaign  If stuff like Beck can be re-released in HD why can't Death Note!!

Hawkmonger 9th March 2013 03:06 PM

Yes, the series is long overdue. Chuck in the unreleased OVA and there's certainly a market.

bdc 21st March 2013 07:57 PM

Wondering about this one... ;)
Any good and is the UK release uncut?

http://dv1.us/p1/227/170227-d0.jpg

Hawkmonger 21st March 2013 08:52 PM

It's uncut and very good if your a fan of westernised animes such as Cowboy Bebop and Ghost in the Shell. Essentialy Speed Racers for adults (and not shit) and it's damn good fun.

bdc 21st March 2013 09:02 PM

Thanks for the info Hawkmonger,it's going on my wishlist. ;)

Oh, yes please. Galaxy Express 999 (indeed anything Leiji Matsumoto related) would be an exceptional BD release. Captain Harlock chocking a dude on milk in HD? Gimmegimmegimme!

SilverGunnar Hansen 22nd March 2013 03:10 PM

Anyone got Arrietty on Dual disc edition? I really liked it at the cinema and keep meaning to buy it but it's still pretty pricey, just wondering if the Blu is much better than the DVD? I imagine it looks pretty stunning on Blu!

Not got it but it SHOULD be good.

Justin101 22nd March 2013 08:35 PM

I've got the blu and it looks lovely, if you like the film it's worth buying. The packaging is really nice too, same as the Ponyo limited edition.

I highly recommend this series, it's only 12 episodes, and doesn't have any robots or demons in it  but it does have jazz and a love triangle and teenagers coming to terms with growing up. It's also from the creators of Cowbow Beebop, Macross and Ghost In The Shell. BD out in June.

I watched the first three episodes over the week end and it is indeed a highly enjoyable little drama. I'll be picking this up.:pop2:

lol... cowbow... I need to type better haha

oaxaca 15th April 2013 01:21 PM

Kids on the slope is pretty high on my anime wishlist, so really looking forward to that release.

I highly recommend an anime called SHIGURUI, this is for me the most entertaining and engrossing anime series I've ever watched!! Cannot recommend it highly enough. Its a samurai drama, very extreme in the gore department. The soundtrack in particular impressed me, very traditional Japanese folk music, unusual for an anime!

Going over some older posts in this thread, I also loved REDLINE, thought the visuals were some of the best I've seen, the colours are so bold and bright its total eye candy. The story was enjoyable but according to the accompanying booklet contains lots of Japanese cultural references to TV icons, etc, that were no doubt lost on me!

Have just bought the EDEN OF THE EAST series + 2 films on blu, rented the series last year and enjoyed it so thought it was about time to watch it again. BLACK LAGOON also is so entertaining! Have both series on BD and can't get enough of them! BERSERK: EGG OF THIS KING I didn't really do much for me but I really need to watch it again, I don;t think I gave it a fair shot. ARRIETTY looks awesome on blu, as do all StudioCanal released Ghiblis. I can't imagine them ever looking any better. Another series of films I'd recommend is MARDOCK SCRAMBLE. A really well put together sci fi / cyberpunk anime which again looks amazing.

I have the US boxset of CLAYMORE and the UK releases of MAGI MADOKA, BROKEN BLADE and CASSHERN SINS (vol.1 on BD, vol. 2 on DVD) still to watch on blu. Heard some glowing things about MAGI MADOKA in particular.

Other must-own anime films (besides all Ghibli films) and series on BD IMO are:

Hawkmonger 15th April 2013 01:33 PM

Herm...I feel where going to have to disagree on Shigurui, Oaxaca. I thought it was one of the worst anime I had ever seen. Bet different strokes.

Have fun with Madoka Magica though, when you get past the flowery exterior it's one of the most harrowing anime of recent years at time's.
And thanks for the recommendation on Mardock Scramble, heard good stuff about that one.

Nobody has mentioned Summer Wars?!? or The Girl Who Leapt Through Time? Two good ones from the same team - Summer Wars is particularly good especially in the animation department.

there's a great collection with the two that's quite cheap. Summer Wars was brilliant and GWLTT is a marvellous film. We have Black Lagoon on blu from the U.S and it looks incredible.

Akira has a good transfer.

Hawkmonger 17th April 2013 09:58 AM

This is a series that could really benefit from a BD release. Sadly over looked modern classic.

Anyone else amazed that StudioCanal haven't released SPIRITED AWAY or PRINCESS MONONOKE over here yet? Surely the 2 most well-known films Ghibli have produced, besides perhaps TOTORO. I wonder what the delay is with these 2?

Anyway, really looking forward to both KIKI and GRAVE OF THE FIREFLIES coming very soon in glorious HD :D

I suspect anything not out yet from Ghibli will appear in the near future. They seem to be working their way through the back catalogue.

What I REALLY want is some nice person to give ARCADIA OF MY YOUTH a full HD restoration.

After that the GALAXY EXPRESS films would be most welcome as well!

August 12th.

The 3rd film is completed and awaiting release. I suspect sometime in October.

BE WARNED. The third film is very possibly going to be cut for the UK. It follows the manga pretty closely so those who have read it should have an idea what to expect.

The bit that will possibly cause problems is a graphic Rape scene that has the 'straw dogs' factor to it. Its possibly one of the most harrowing anime films i've seen and having read the books and seen the origional series I was expecting it as well!

Noticed these in the 2 for 10 Pounds deal on Amazon...anyone can tell me more on this 2.0 version and the blu? ;)

Ghost In The Shell 2.0 Redux [Blu-ray]
Ghost In The Shell Innocence [Blu-ray]

Ghost in the Shell 2.0 is the origional film with extra bits added. It looks great and is worth picking up at that price.

I should also add GITS 2 innocence apparrantly has dodgy subs... not seen it myself so can't confirm.
