December Highlights on the Horror Channel:

"Andrew Goth's ambitious and disaster beset zombie cowboy feature (it started production in 2009) finally gets an outing on UK TV on Friday 16 December at 9pm, courtesy of Horror Channel. Starring Wesley Snipes (who served a prison sentence soon after the film was completed) Gallowwalkers is a heady mix of Sergio Leone's Spaghetti Westerns, and Alejandro Jodorowsky's mystical cult classic El Topo. Set in a vast foreboding desert, we follow a cursed gunfighter Aman (Snipes) as he attempts to allude justice whilst killing the 'undead'. Prepare for surreal true grit, a shock bonanza, and a fistful of corpses. It also stars fellow hard-nuts Kevin Howarth and Patrick Bergin.

That's not the only movie worth staying in for this December, Horror Channel also has a Boxing Day treat for you - the network premiere of Joe Dante's genuinely affecting monster movie Matinee, starring John Goodman. Set in the 1960s, this early comedy from horror filmmaker Joe Dante centres on a teenage boy who befriends charismatic, humorously overblown movie producer Lawrence Woolsey (Goodman), who specialises in gimmick-filled horror films. Preparation for the premiere of Woolsey's latest opus, which stars a giant ant, coincides with the escalation of the Cuban Missile Crisis. This culminates in unexpected chaos. Well worth a watch.

Other UK premieres on offer include Austin Chick's shocking payback thriller Girls Against Boys; and Olatunde Osunsanmi's serial-killer crime gripper Evidence, starring Stephen Moyer.

There are also network premieres for Alex Proyas's absorbing sci-fi actioner Knowing, starring Nic Cage; Joseph J. Lawson's dinosaur-battling B-movie homage Age Of Dinosaurs, starring Treat Williams and Rachel Goldenberg's sci-fi flavoured mockbuster Sherlock Holmes.

ALSO... from Friday 16 December at 7pm there is the Network Premiere of Earth: Final Conflict Season 2 (1998)"

Unfortunately, the house has an evil spirit of its own. They are now trapped between malevolent entities, forcing them to stay and fight, or go back the way they came. Also stars Kane Hodder"

Jan 9th - The Ninth Gate

Jan 13th - 13 Sins: "Heavily in debt and with a pregnant girlfriend, an autistic brother, and an ailing father to care for, down-on-his-luck salesman Elliot (Mark Webber) is thrown an unusual lifeline. A mysterious phone caller offers him cash for completing thirteen challenges, each more difficult than the one before. However, should he fail one, he loses everything. As the stakes rise, Elliot must decide whether the risk is worth the reward"

Jan 14th - We Are Still Here. "After their teenage son is killed in a car crash, Paul and Anne (Barbara Crampton) move to the New England countryside to start a new life. Jan 21st - Out Of The Dark. "Sarah Harriman (Julia Stiles) has moved her family - husband Paul (Scott Speedman) and sprightly daughter Hannah (Pixie Davies) - to a small Colombian town to work at the paper mill her father (Stephen Rea) owns. As they settle into their home, surrounded by a forbidding jungle landscape, Hannah begins to act strangely and suddenly disappears. As Sarah and Paul frantically search for her, they delve deeper into the town'superstitions and discover a shocking secret about their family; a secret they must uncover in order to save their daughter"

Weren't they planning on ditching the Crypt Keeper for the reboot?

No idea. I never read the article posted.

It doesn't mention it in either of those articles, but I seem to remember reading that HBO owns the rights to the Crypt Keeper, could be wrong though

This might be of interest to some people:

BBC Four, Wed 18 Jan 12:55am - 1:55am: How the Devil Got His Horns: A Diabolical Tale

"Review
by Claire Webb
Art historian Alastair Sooke is on a diabolical quest but at first finds no trace of the horned Satan with swinging tail and sulphourous whiff. The earliest existing Lucifer, in a sixth-century church in Ravenna, northern Italy, looks more like a beatific blue angel.

Five centuries later, Beelzebub makes a second appearance in Venice: still blue but this time with flowing locks and squiffy eyes. This fascinating film then reveals how the artists of the Middle Ages turned to fun-loving pagan gods for inspiration. Soon Old Nick was getting up to all sorts. Often, as Sooke points out with a glint in his eye, more porno than inferno.

Summary
Art historian Alastair Sooke reveals how the Devil's image was created by artists in the Middle Ages. He explores how visual interpretations of Satan evolved between the birth of Christ and the Renaissance, and how he was depicted in an array of different guises, including tempter, tyrant and rebellious angel."

I'm in two minds about this. The show was fun to watch not only because of the fantastic scripts and dialogue but because of the cast. A reboot sounds like a good idea but what if the cast lacks the same chemistry...

I wonder if Joss is up for it, he was pretty disappointed with how the show was treated the first time around (by Fox...)

It's been done once and failed at at least in the eyes of the Networks.

There's so much tv nowadays but unless you're Trebor there's still only 24 hours in the day and of that time only three or four are for tv and movie watching at most.

without the cast i cant see it working, Nathan Fillion Is Malcolm Reynolds can't see anyone else in the role as he was basically playing himself

The weird thing is that it's the same TV Network that caused it to flounder that wants to reboot it!

Space operas like that don't tend to work for the networks. I don't think Enterprise was considered a huge success was it and that was quite similar to Firefly.

I may be wrong of course. I can't recall any similar sci-fi since.

No, You're right. I can't see it being a success at all. Battlestar Galactica was probably the last successful sci-fi series of this ilk, and even that only lasted for 2 short seasons and 2 long seasons. Caprica was cancelled before the end of its first season and Blood and Chrome was never even picked up.

The thing with Star Trek, as with Doctor Who, is there is a world wide recognized brand in place that will always guarantee some sort of interest.

Something like Firefly doesn't have that luxury. Battlestar Galactica also had a fondly remembered brand with which to work.

The series from executive producer and writer Christian Torpe has been described as a “twisted cousin” to the source material, and the 10-episode first season premieres in June."

This looks pretty good to be quite honest, I think it looks better than the movie which I did enjoy as well, but obviously as it's a series it'll be a lot more 'fleshed out'. The cast looks good, familiar faces from TV and film.

But how will they cope with 'the ending?'

It was very effective in the movie version, but if the television version uses it, it will kill any chance of a second series!

iank 12th April 2017 11:33 PM

Well that ending was solely in the movie, so they don't have to copy it. In the novella they just drive off into the mist.

I was wondering about that as it's not a usual Stephen King type of ending. I've not read the book with The Mist in it yet.
