Thanks Ron.

I find the episode really creepy, its not remotely funny. The invisible cards and food is disturbing, as the two are clearly loonies, and we're not talking Stan and Ollie lunatics either.

Rondadoronron 12th November 2013 05:40 PM

invisible cards

I luv the bit with the invisible cards, especially Stan shows Olly what cards he's holding, and also the bit where he tells the butler he's dropped a card, (I think you may have been traumatized by a L & H film, ironic considering some of the stuff you watch)

True, but then again i didn't first see Hellraiser as a seven year old at 6pm on BBC 2.

Stanley: We heard the sea is infactuated with sharks.
Oliver: Not infactuated. He means infuriated.
I still find it incredible that the majority of there greatest films were made in the 30's,and like has already been said there humour stands the test of time today, whether its The Office (Gervais has often cited L & H as his favs) or Bottom (I read somewhere that Ade Edmundson watches there stuff at least once a day) its still funny, somehow I can't see the Inbetweeners lasting that long,(that wore thin after one series).

Way Out West is one of the funniest films ever made! I never tire of watching it!

Worth a note: Homer Simpson's "D'oh!" Catchphrase was based on James Finlayson (Mickey Finn). He done it in many films and he does it in this film. (You can hear it when he fires the rifle in his bed)

The thing I love the most about their films is, you don't even need to watch to Burst out in tears of laughter! You just have to THINK about a scene!

No not yet.

I think its fairly unlikely as even the restored dvd's are a mess in places, especially some of the shorts.

I think the colourised ones look like Hell. My five year old nephew can only watch them in colour, but he's only five so I can let him off with it.

I feel im being abit lazy just posting stills,so ill try and at least put some effort into some post's.
Going Bye-Bye!
I can't remember if I had actually seen this before,Like alot of people I first saw L & H during the daytime in the school holidays, this was before Tiswas and Noel's Multicolored Swap Shop.So it's only in the last few years with the DVD releases that I've been able to catch up with these wonderful short's.
Going is a great 20 mins, pure L & H its crammed full of gags,it wizz's along and even has a good story, (in fact most of there short films have great stories and make alot of full length feature's pale into comparison).
Special mention to Walter Long who plays Butch, pretty much type cast in all these films he's a brilliant stooge and villain in the absence of Frank Finlayson and Mae Busch is also in attendance as butch's mole, she of Oliver The Eighth fame and many more.

As a 20 year old, Stan Jefferson (as he was known then) joined the Fred Karno troupe, where he was the understudy for Charlie Chaplin
