The Last Shark

What I wouldn't give to see this thoroughly entertaining Italian Jaws knock-off available uncut on UK DVD.

I'd imagine the rights might be a bit tricky though.

To be honest as a lover of continental trash I would love to see any of the Italian shark movies out on UK DVD.

Philleh 27th October 2007 11:58 AM

I'm with you on this one buddy, these films have a certain 'something' that I honestly can't discribe.

I'd like to see Jaws 5: Cruel Jaws from Bruno Mattei, there is a DVD-R doing the rounds, sourced from VHS, but I'd like the real deal! hehe. I know the film will never get a North American release, due to prosecution from the director of Jaws 2: from which this film stole scenes from.

Nothing about it not getting a UK release though! hehe.

Any film that is comprised of scenes stolen from other peoples films HAS to be seen! lol

Has it actually been released over here? I read about The Last Shark a few years ago and was downloading it off a torrent site, but it was so slow and I just gave up on it after a while. It's definitely something I'd like to see!

last shark was on google video the other week, may still be on there. I picked up a copy from trash-online.

RobbieD 15th November 2007 12:02 PM

I've now seen it!!!!

I can't believe they had the nerve to ripoff JAWS so much! That scene of a shark lunging out of the sea and grabbing the guy hanging off a helicopter has to be seen to be believed - how did they think they'd get away with that!? I won't spoil it for anybody that's not seen it.

Definitely one that Shameless could release... the label sums up the entire movie!

RobbieD 6th December 2007 02:59 PM

Does anyone know whether this movie is available on DVD anywhere in the world, WITHOUT Japanese subtitles?

herman 7th December 2007 01:22 PM

i ve got a copy

RobbieD 10th December 2007 10:24 AM

Is it the one with Japanese subs?

herman 10th December 2007 07:42 PM

check out pm's mate. I cant put my hand on copy at the moment but info in private message.

herman 12th December 2007 05:02 PM

just fopund out- my copy got subs

RobbieD 13th December 2007 03:30 PM

oh that's a shame :( i've been looking around and it doesn't look like there's ANY version of the movie out that doesn't have Japanese subs! would be a scoop for shameless to release. what movie is more shameless than this one? also it's apparently referenced in the movie grindhouse.

RobbieD 13th December 2007 03:39 PM

i take that last comment back, it HAS had ONE previous dvd release, in France (http://www.dvdcritiques.com/critique....aspx?dvd=4144 nice photos/menus here) however the soundtrack is in french & has no english subtitles!

according to a post on imdb the picture is in widescreen and looks fantastic. Also a clip is on the US DVD http://www.amazon.com/50-Worst-Movie...7563787&sr=8-1
so it has some kudos haha

herman 13th December 2007 08:17 PM

the film also has a great shark in it! a great shark v helicopter battle and i loved that scene where the shark drags a pier out to sea.

Philleh 17th December 2007 10:03 AM

The Last Shark will be getting an official R2 release in April 2008 from Studio S.
They're the Sweedish label that put out "Inglorious Bastards" not too long ago.

They'll also be releasing Ovidio G. Assonitis' "Tentacles" - nice!

herman 17th December 2007 11:36 AM

I was just going to blog about the swedish release of last shark (april) after reading this on lovelock and load. Now what puzzles me is whether the dvd will have english audio or subs because the case for the region 2 release I think is in french - as la mort au large or am i perhaps missing something here?

anyhow good to see this film being picked up again.

Philleh 17th December 2007 03:53 PM

I'd cross my fingers and go with English dub and Sweedish (removeable) subs :)

herman 17th December 2007 09:17 PM

a choice between swedish subtitles or "the original" Japanese hhehe :D

cloud 16th May 2008 06:39 PM

Another film I'd love to see released. What's the craic with this film's rights? I know it's getting released in Sweden I think.

JAMIOUSE 16th May 2008 07:03 PM

Has anyone tracked The Last Shark / The Last Jaws down yet? I keep checking Sazuma and Xploited but they haven't got it in stock yet.

bedorca 17th May 2008 11:07 AM

Sssshhhhhhh

Look what I found

;)

herman 17th May 2008 12:05 PM

thats the same last shark that seems to be all over the net- the subbed one,

I have wondered if legal issues have prevented releases- since it rips off jaws.

bedorca 17th May 2008 03:49 PM

Universal had a BIG problem with it. If you ever see the video art (or the film!) you will know why!!!

cloud 22nd July 2008 09:36 AM

OK I don't want to put words in Almar's mouth but I think he's open minded to releasing this film, he just needs a little encouragement perhaps.

So hand on heart who would buy this film if Shameless did release it? I for one would get it in a heartbeat.

Almar@Cult Labs 22nd July 2008 04:25 PM

So Reaper makes that two...

vipco 22nd July 2008 04:52 PM

Vip's makes 3.

I'd buy it as well .

' How Sleep the Brave ' and ' The Other Hell ' are 2 films I think would also make good Shameless titles. What do you think Almar .?

iluvdvds@Cult Labs 22nd July 2008 04:54 PM

And me!!!!

Peter Neal 22nd July 2008 08:20 PM

IF it had better (as in understandable:D) audio to boost than the otherwise serviceable "Another World" release I'd seriously consider doubledipping on this meaty slice of shark action done Italiana style.:)

dougal 22nd July 2008 08:41 PM

It'd be in a yellow box. I'd buy.

cloud 22nd July 2008 08:48 PM

So we gots 5 definites and 1 probably thus far. Come on others, don't be so bashful...

And here's the trailer if your appetite needs whetting ;)

I always thought you were one of The Last Shark champions?

Philleh 23rd July 2008 09:09 AM

I'd get Last Shark too... maybe you can find the scene where they actually blow the shark up at the end? lol As much as i love the cheapskate ending, surely there was a model shark getting blown up for the grand finale?!?!

iluvdvds@Cult Labs 23rd July 2008 11:53 AM

What's Wrong With Balamory!!!!!

;)

Let's hope it gets some good feedback.

Zarith 25th July 2008 09:38 AM

I first saw l'Ultimo Squalo at elementary school. I was 9 years old!

Our teacher wanted to make a "movie afternoon". She asked us if we had any good videotapes. One guy, Didier, said "My brother has good movies! I'll bring one". 2 days later, we were all sitting in the school TV room watching The Last Shark! 20 kids from 8 to 10! With the teacher sleeping in the back

Next on Didier's list was Antropophagous. Luckily (or unluckily for me) the teacher thought it was "maybe" too violent for us...
