Indiana Jones knock offs?

A Shameless double bill release of Hunters Of The Golden Cobra and Ark Of The Sun God would please me greatly.

What other films of this ilk have vanished since the days of video rental?

Pete 11th May 2012 10:28 PM

I would gladly snap up a double bill featuring those two!
Trailer for 'ARK':

Demdike@Cult Labs 11th May 2012 10:31 PM

I've always found Indiana Jones knock offs to be on the whole rubbish. (Gwendoline excepted).

Even studio productions like Jewel of the Nile, King Soloman's Mines and Tomb Raider were on the whole poor.

The first Mummy film (1999) and National Treasure (2004) are the only successes i can think of.

As for crappy, Italian, no budget dross :tsk:

Any recommendations?

Pete 11th May 2012 10:36 PM

I've always been quite curious to see KISS OF THE COBRA:

I liked Treasure Of The Four Crowns when I was a kid. I remember being gutted that I couldn't see it in its original 3D.

I had that on tape but my video would never play it :(

Pete 11th May 2012 10:45 PM

Here is the rights holder for ARK OF THE SUN GOD so you can't pretend to not know who own's it ;)

While you're there you can buy all those Mattei movies, too!

JUNGLE RAIDERS! WANT!

There appears to be two German editions of JUNGLE RAIDERS but, as usual, they are not English friendly.

Would gladly like to be told otherwise!

Have you looked at the rest of their catalogue? Some amazing titles there.

Paul 11th May 2012 11:08 PM

The US release of Ark of the Sun God is terrible.

I saw Treasure Of The Four Crowns as a kid. The ending is insane!:scared:

Bringer Of Funerals 12th May 2012 09:56 AM

OT but just checked the link and quite a few of them sound like good cheesy fun ripe for the Shameless range

Man, I remember watching the trailer for Treasure of the Four Crowns on Stephen Romano's Shock Festival DVD and thinking it looked totally boss! Definitely need to check it out! :)

Hawkmonger 12th May 2012 03:52 PM

Although not Italian, the Allan Quatermain movies are fun Indy rip-offs.

oaxaca 12th May 2012 09:03 PM

I'm a big fan of these 2 Richard Chamberlain / Sharon Stone eighties cheese fests:

Supposedly based on the H. Rider Haggard novels but definitely Indiana Jones cash ins :p Oh and Chamberlain does a remarkable Chuck Norris impersonation in these films

Remember going to see both of them at the cinema. Great soundtracks on them too. My favourite Chamberlain performances, along with Shōgun

oaxaca 12th May 2012 09:28 PM

Yeah he's really charismatic in the 2 films, you could easily picture him playing Indiana Jones. He never really made it big in movies though for some reason, more of a TV actor from the late 70s onwards. I'm keen to get a copy of The Bourne Identity 1988 in which he plays Bourne and have long wanted to see Shōgun.

Oh and I've not got round to watching it yet but Selleck's High Road To China must surely be at least a bit of an IJ rip-off??

Tom Selleck would have really improved the Indiana Jones films if he had been cast instead of Embarrassin' Bored.

Locate this man's IP address! Release the hounds!

Us innovative thinkers are always persecuted!

oaxaca 12th May 2012 10:35 PM

Haha, well Spielberg & Lucas did want Selleck as their 1st choice for Indy Jones but he was tied up to his Magnum PI contract. Still, I thought Ford fit the role perfectly too. Quality actor though Selleck, seriously underrated.

Pete 12th May 2012 10:43 PM

I haven't seen any of the IDIANA JONES films since I was about 7 or 8. These days I'm more interested in seeing some dodgy Italian rip-off than watching the 'proper' films again.

Word.

Sarah@Cult Labs 29th May 2012 08:09 AM

Was having a little email chat with the guys at Shameless yesterday and they were really interested to hear that fans were requesting these titles. Apparently they're not something that's on their list of possible titles right now but never say never... :)

The 4th Fella 29th May 2012 10:14 PM

I've got ARK from Televista. A better transfer would be most welcome. But being released in a double pack of HUNTERS would be the cherry on the cake.

There is an ultra rare Italian DVD of ARK which is in it's correct ratio and has English audio. Really hard to find, unfortunately. :(

Gojirosan 2nd June 2012 03:40 PM

Predators of the Magic Stone

I would love to see this.

I'd snap up a Shameless double-bill of these two in a heartbeat. I remember John Steiner's character in the former being incredibly hard to kill and the guy has more lives than a cat! The latter film's fun Matchbox model car chase merits more than one viewing too!

Can't recall much about this effort bar the VHS artwork and 'The Stranger' himself, Tony Anthony playing the lead. The ‘Blindman’ doing Indy!

If i'm right i own a new copy of this edition at home but it's boxed up with most of my other titles. Yours truly picked up said release years ago along with an Italian Tentacles DVD which i gave away once i realised there were no English subtitle and audio options!

You and me both. Christopher Connelly and Lee Van Cleef star in this one too if i remember correctly.

Anybody else also recall Gold Raiders with the late Robert Ginty and White Fire too with the same actor although this latter effort was something of a dreary affair imo despite the presence of the former Exterminator and Fred 'The Hammer' Williamson.

I haven’t caught Rene Cardona Jr.’s Treasure Of The Amazon for years either not since seeing EIV's pruned pre-cert entitled Treasure Of Doom. A notable cast in this one though including Bradford Dillman, Donald Pleasence, Stuart Whitman, John Ireland and Hugo Stiglitz. I once owned the Dutch ISV release and subsequently purchased VCI's U.S. DVD which i've yet to watch.

Gojirosan 15th June 2012 06:34 PM

Currently watching Ark Of The Sun God (in French) and I swear this would make a superb Shameless release! Plenty of action, Warbeck mugging away, nicely filmed.

Do the right thing, Shameless!

PLEASE!

Bringer Of Funerals 19th June 2012 12:08 PM

The original Indiana Jones films are coming on Blu

Splatterdragon73 19th June 2012 01:21 PM

Here's hoping Indiana Jones And The Temple Of Doom will be uncut this time! Both U.K. DVDs are still snipped if i'm not wrong.:mmph:

I don't like them. I'd rather have the rip-offs.

Well, Raiders... is just bearable, but I've no time for he others.

No you didn't. He actually said 'trilogy' since we all know there are only 3 films in that series.

Tetralogy* and no. Sean Connery is in it. Sean Connery AND Harrison Ford. *shudder* I was not impressed.

I saw someone yesterday use "quintology" when he meant "pentalogy". Why are these made up words appearing?

*Soz guys, trilogy...

Gojirosan 19th June 2012 06:16 PM

Hawkmonger! I didn't mean to sound condescending then! Sorry, mate!

Hawkmonger 19th June 2012 07:05 PM

It didn't come off as condisending at all, Gojirosan!
We all have differing opinions on actors, not just members here, but everyone world over. You hate Sean Connery, whers't most people love him. Alot of members of this site love Reb Brown, most other people would never have even heard of him.
The Indian Jones QUADRILOGY BTW.:tongue1:
I must insist. I dislike Temple of the Crystal Skull as much as most, but alas it happened. We must accept it as we accept The Phantom Menace.

Gojirosan 19th June 2012 07:06 PM

Imean I was being condesending for correcting quadrilogy for tetralogy (the proper word!).

It's a pet peeve of mine and I blurt it out when ever I hear "quadrilogy"!

I am trying very hard to try to not care about it!
