Default Dario Argento's 'Giallo'

Argento's new film 'Giallo' had its premier showing the other night in Edinburgh. A review of it can be found here: http://giallo-fever.blogspot.com/

Sounds like it might be quite good.

I'd seen the trailer a few months back for this, but hadn't heard anything since... cheers for the update spooks! It does sound like it will be a return to form for Argento, which is good.

Sure does mate.Argento's a legend.I was talking to an Italian tile rep yesterday who admitted that Argento's 70's and '80's stuff is fantastic, but he felt that he had somewhat lost his way in the '90's.I can find good points in all his films, but there will certainly be high hopes for this one.

Can't wait for this, though I think I read somewhere that Argento himself was somewhat unhappy with it, can't recall why right enough. Or where I read it.

I'd almost forgotten (read : erased from my mind with mind-rubbers) about Mother of Tears, thanks for reminding me Gax..... It wasn't so bad second time around I suppose.

No great compliment there then!

The problem which many seem to have with the (admittedly mixed) more recent Argento output seems to be that many fanboys can't accept nothing but genius and perfection from Dario based on his 70's/80's cult faves.
We accept and watch thousends of average and mediocre genre movies a year and yet feel well enough entertained by them.
It doesn't always have to be another masterstroke like "Suspiria" or "Tenebrae" to make me happy after a stressful working day.
If "Giallo" manages to keep me entertained through its running time, then it'll meet all the needs I have towards it.
I would go so far as to call some of the constant en vogue Argento bashing in the www borderline cynical, as only few fan-reviewers seem to take into account the dramatic changes in the Italian movie industry and international movie market since the "golden days".
BTW: I didn't like "Mother of Tears" a bit, but apart from that and "Phantom of the Opera", no other Argento movies have disappointed me- with "Sleepless" being a late highlight and personal fave
So if "Giallo" fits in somewhere between "Sleepless" and "The Card Player", I feel reasonably well enough catered for.

I read that Argento stated he was just a director for hire on the film and had not been involved in the production or writing and this had caused him some unhappiness with the film.In the same interview he also said the producers were not returning his calls and he had no idea when the film would be released.
