"THE DENTIST" (1996, Director: Brian Yuzna - Starring: Corbin Bernsen)

One of my favourite 'guilty pleasure' horror flicks.

I just love Corbin Bernsen as Dr. Feinstone in this flick. He really does give a superb performance and some of the gore in this film is truly 1st class.

The sequel was pretty good too, if you like fun light-hearted cheesy horror like I do. Great tagline; BRACE YOURSELF! YOU KNOW THE DRILL.

Any other 'Dentist' fans here? I can't be the only one!!!!

I honestly believe this flick is criminally underrated.

I really like The Dentist and its sequel. Bernsen is on fine form as the manic dentist who loses the plot. It's also worth noting that the R1 of the sequel is the one to go for, as the UK release lost over two minutes of gore at the behest of the BBFC - someone should resubmit the uncut version, as it would fly through the BBFC now.

Sorry, the exact timing of the cuts was 51 secs, not over 2 minutes, as erroneously stated. But still, that's quite a fair chunk to cut out of the film. The BBFC doesn't state what was cut exactly and I only have the uncut R1 release, so I can't compare the two.

And when High Fliers resubmitted the film in 2001 (presumably for DVD), they simply resubmitted the cut version.

Thanks for the information. You're right - 51 secs is still a hell of a lot as far as cuts go.

I guess I'll be getting the R1 release then. Since I don't have the sequel (rented it ages ago), I might as well splash out.

How surprising though that the BBFC would have seen fit to cut such a light hearted flick. I suppose their stupidity knows no bounds, eh?

The R1 of Dentist 2 looks lovely - a nice anamorphic transfer and uncut! The violence is quite sadistic and nasty so I can see why uptight Ferman would've got his panties in a twist over it. Strange coming from a man who confessed that the reason he joined the BBFC was so that he'd never have to watch a censored film ever again! Hmm...whilst depriving the rest of us of the same privilege.

This is one I always considered hiring out back in the VHS days but always found something that looked a bit more interesting instead. One day I will see both, it's just a matter of when. In all honesty though I've never been a big fan of Brian Yuzna and Stuart Gordon. They've done some alright stuff but never anything that's particularly excited me.

Just ordered the R1 release of THE DENTIST 2 on Amazon.com.

It will be good to see part 2 again after so many years. And uncut, no less!

The cuts are 51 secs. The only info I can find is the following (presumably the 'Truth Or Pain' scene)...

The BBFC cuts are to a scene showing a female victim undergoing a very bloody & graphic "dentistry"

Uncut on its Zone Horror screening/s.I thought the sequel was rather poor compared to the original.
