There's plenty of decent horror out there if you look for it. I agree on stuff like American Guinea pig film which was just soul destroying. However stuff like Absentia still pops up from time to time.

Indeed, although I'm increasingly finding you have to go further afield to look for it. Mainstream US horror dried up years ago (a few exceptions aside).

Some I've enjoyed from the past five years:

The Battery (2012)
Berberian Sound Studio (2012)
Beyond the Black Rainbow (2010)
Cold Fish (2010)
The Dead (2010)
Detention (2011)
Dream Home (2010)
Escape from Tomorrow (2013)
Excision (2012)
Father's Day (2011)
A Field in England (2013)
Frankenstein's Army (2013)
The Guest (2014)
Here Comes the Devil (2012)
I Saw the Devil (2010)
Insidious (2010)
It Follows (2014)
Julia's Eyes (2010)
Kill List (2011)
Lesson of Evil (2012)
Lovely Molly (2012)
Maniac (2012)
Moebius (2013)
Only Lovers Left Alive (2013)
Rigor Mortis (2013)
Rubber (2010)
Der Samurai (2014)
The Skin I Live In (2011)
Snowtown (2011)
Spring (2014)
The Strange Colour of Your Body's Tears (2013)
Stoker (2013)
Troll Hunter (2010)
Tucker and Dale Vs. Evil (2010)
What We Do in the Shadows (2014)

Some fine choices there B_E.

I just thought i'd disagree with Lovely Molly, Excision and Insidious. Especially Insidious which just came over like every other jump scare supernatural mainstream movie. The other two at least were trying something a little different which i applaud.

What, no The Conjuring? No Oculus?
Balls to that.

Make Them Die Slowly 31st August 2015 08:23 AM

I would be more interested in a top 50 of made for DVD dreck, the likes of which lurk on supermarket reduced shelves beyond fandom and critical acclaim.
