Reading The City And The Stars by Arthur C Clarke.
In the future, Man has retreated to a gleaming eternal city, as a space war has put them off their travel plans. A young man discovers a terrible secret (and love) whilst seeking the truth behind this "utopia". Written in 1956, this has been reworked several times (Logans Run, The Island etc), but is none the worse for it. i can sort of guess the ending, but will reserve judgement until then.......
