A mate's brother always raved about it (and 'the horse song' in Legend ... ) so I ignored that as he also poked fibreglass into his hand once then asked "is this dangerous?". He died in a car accident.
So I was in no hurry to see any movie called Xanadu.
Watching it was unique. I never liked musicals growing up owing to an early exposure to Seven Brides ......

Jodelle Ferland. Don't know the name? You will by the end of this screed I hope. It started innocently enough when a mate purchased the Terry Gilliam film Tideland (2005). If you haven't seen it, Jeff Bridges plays an unorthodox parent who passes, leaving his daughter to wander off into a world of her own making. At the time we were all impressed by the performance of said actor....which seemed to belie her years etc.

Time passes, and I'm sitting in my mates watching the awful Case...

whilst innocently watching the culture show (checking out this Wicker Man play thing, starts at His Majesty's in Aberdeen next week apparently!) i came across M Kermode's annual "awards" ceremony, now USUALLY i agree or nod appreciatedly at his choices BUT (and zis ees a BEEEEG but) i CANNOT in all good conscience condone his decision in giving Best Film to WNTTAK...easily the most PREDICTABLE film ive seen in years, the only thing thats "shocking" about it is Tilda Swinton's...

since rereading my last blog (the shitter8 one) and having noticed its incoherence, i&i have resolved to being more evenhanded and fair in my treatment of mainstream cinema. why, just this last year hollywood gave us lovely N E W versions of crappy old films (pooh! who wants to see them...) such as The Thing and Straw Dogs. What an improvement! none of that nasty subtext etc.
since they went to all the trouble of this, why stop there? lets spruce up every film! shia la bouf as citizen...

do we really have to put up with lazy blockbuster directors and their wish fulillment fantasies? i refer of course to S**** 8. having never been a Lost fan (im a Dick man, so shite about timetravel is passe IMO) i was pleasantly surprised to actually like Cloverfield (though i did see it in a decent cinema which may have had some bearing on this decision...anyone remember The Host?) i cannot begin to say what i disliked about this film, though i better as this is the nature of these things. was...

ahem. i just dont like u2/coldplay. so i watched a fair chunk of Dexter (series 5)...tis a bit "all over the shop" and filled with guests...get your own series julia!! but then after Lithgow's star turn anything would have been a let down....but i feel that the writers felt the same so there's a "...and the kitchen sink" approach...
it may even out, but not really bothered as new Breaking Bad is imminent...after refreshing...

due to my craving for unpleasant shit, i now have Zvot I Smrt Porno Bande (or life and death of a porno gang) which is more life affirming than the-other-one, though thats nae saying much ahahaha ahem. have watched it 3 times now, and what emerges is a very black comedy, with something for everyone..if youre into bestiality, snuff etc. 8/10....

well. this is where the fun begins folks, as i admit that i finally saw Bloody Moon at the weekend, the European Shock 1, which would have been the first uncut dvd release??? can see why me mate went on&on&on about it aw these years, totally batshit in places, it it now my favourite Franco film!!
