He and fellow reprobates find a magic book and try to figure out how to use its powers to transport the hell out of there. Their journey takes in a heavy breathing porn collage, bits of gore, a possessed action man (kind of) and, above all, lots of sitting around talking. That last bit could be a bit off-putting were ‘Malefique’ not so crammed with incident and less alive to its characters’ humanity. Comparisons to other ‘mind bending sci-fi flicks set in enclosed spaces’ like ‘Cube’ are possible, and ‘Malefique’ probably relates more to that particular cinematic strain than the gore movies that would come out of France a year or so after this was made. Interesting and well worth your time, I would think.
Blushing Demon. HAIL.
