Of the various versions/cuts doing the rounds over the years we never had a full Integral version that was full English friendly until the Italian/Medusa release from a few years back (also that version was THE best looking out there)...of course that version (the full Italian cut) was presented Italian Lang/Eng subs...THAT version is how I now view the movie (all dubs are just that...dubs!)...no offence meant here...but I can't understand people getting their knickers in a twist about one or two jarring lines when the merging of the Eng/Italian print obviously has these jarring effects throughout...why complain about two lines when the whole experience jumps back/forth between languages?...if that's a problem for the viewer watch the Italian version with subs & it should flow more smoothly...I'm not saying it's perfect but it'd be a less annoying way to watch the film

From the AV Review:

Quote:
The default option is to view the film in English, with the various Italian bits subtitled in English; given that the film was shot in English, with Connelly, Pleasence and Bauchau dubbing their own performances, this is the logical choice. Alas, this presents a couple of anomalies that deserve to be reported. Given that the bits in Italian are sometimes within scenes otherwise available in English, this results in some familiar line readings being dubbed into Italian (for example, Jennifer’s roommate telling her that she’s never be able to sleep if she thought about Jennifer’s father, a fictitious Italian-American movie star).
Phenomena (aka Creepers) (Comparison: R-Rated - German DVD) - Movie-Censorship.com

In this breakdown of the differences between Creepers and the Director's Cut it shows the scene with Sophie in both those versions.

Quote:
18:21-18:23
Just before Jennifer says that she thinks about her father before falling asleep she is shown a little longer.
2.32 sec.
If you look at the differences between the Director's Cut and the Italian Cut you'll see no mention of that scene.

Phenomena (Comparison: BBFC 18 DVD - German DVD) - Movie-Censorship.com

Also, I've never seen the Italian Cut and I'm perfectly familiar with that scene from the other versions.

So, if this line with Sophie thinking about Jennifer's father is indeed still in Italian even on the English track, will I finally be heard on this subject?

Jesus skyofcrack, you really don´t get it, do you.

What part of "Given that the bits in Italian are sometimes within scenes otherwise available in English, this results in some familiar line readings being dubbed into Italian"

Like I said, the Italian print is made extentions and bits of dialogue. If you have a scene that has an extended bit, that bit is in Italian, even is in the middle of a phrase... When said that this results in some familiar line readings being dubbed into Italian, we get a sentence in english that in most cases has more dialogue in the middle that is only available with the Italian dub... get it.

I´m not here to make wars or enemies, just to make my humble opinion.
Besides that, I´m only trying to answer a simple question given the fact that I know what I´m saying.
This is too tiresome for me, and I´m only trying to help on something.

I believe it´s better to be just a reader of this forum than a poster/contributor.
Bye...

Troy's definitely a very respected knowledgeable guy, as anyone that’s read the FAB Press book 'The Haunted World of Mario Bava' (or any of his AV Maniacs input) will be aware. It’s interesting to note though that folk here have problems/delays picking up on online reviews of incoming Arrow releases…admittedly it doesn’t help when we’re blocked from posting links to reviews (as I found in the past when trying to post some of our reviews at SGM for your perusal!) Hmmm…

(I should note for any over sensitive readers that the above is simply a wee nudge wink elbow dig at the guys to relax the link posting rules)

Oh dear oh dear .. this has gotten a little out of hand guys. Why can't we all wait to see the movie ourselves and then comment? It's all second or third hand at the moment ... and to be fair it's getting a bit much now.

Rant over

I think we all need to step back and chill out a bit.

This is supposed to be a joyous ocassion: Phenomena on Blu-Ray for the first time ever. Reviews look favourable, but I'm all for seeing it myself to make my mind up, so can we please concentrate on the reviews, and our opinions towards them and not continue with (what seems to be) an infinite loop of rhetoric.
