That's a decent set of extras -- not outstanding (no commentary?), but extremely good. I hope Sarah can elaborate and confirm what the extra features will be. Also, some artwork would be good!

In response to the questions about Limited Edition packaging: I've spoken to Shameless and, unfortunately, they have been forced to abandon the idea of a limited edition metal case (which was their original plan). This is due to the fact that high street retailers have said that they cannot "support" a special edition. This means that they won't make room on their shelves for it and, therefore, won't order it. As metal cases are very costly to produce per unit, Shameless have had no choice but to release the film in standard yellow amaray for the DVD and Shameless' own yello-ray cases for the BD or run the risk of not being able to cover their costs. I'm sure you all appreciate that this is not a risk a small, niche company like Shameless can afford to take. Instead, however, Shameless have opted to have the most amount of extras they can, making this the highest budgeted Shameless release to date! The special features list on Amazon is correct, although the Francesca Cirdi interview is actually part of the documentary. Incidentally, the film will be released as 2 x DVD9 for the DVD edition, and 1 x BD50 for the BD edition. Oh, PS. Baseball Fury: you will definitely receive a BD edition of the film.

This is sad new about the release Sarah. I don't understand why the retailers wouldn't support it Was there meant to be a limited edition and a standard release? As I thought there was only one, which would mean the retailers wouldn't be stocking it at all Another reason to shop online |

That's a shame. Still, it saves me trying to decide between the regular edition and the limited edition at the cost of it looking out of place in my collection.

Is there no way that Shameless could produce a very limited run (around 100 or so) of Steelbooks and sell them direct through Cult-Labs? I'm sure a few members on here who voted they would buy it (including me!) would be willing to pre-order it now and also pay for it now, so that Shameless are secured a sale, making it less of a risk. That way, Shameless don't spend a fortune producing too many copies, the Cult-Labbers are happy because they can pick up a Limited Edition (which would be be even more exclusive now) and we can show those high street shops they are not the be all and end all

Although the decision by the retailers is regrettable, it makes perfect financial sense for Shameless to release the title in regular cases. There's no point releasing such a flagship title and being out of pocket when all is said and done.

Retail stores are not doing themselves any favours in their attempts to survive the modern age, are they?

Judging by this decision and the outrageous prices HMV stores can charge, it's no wonder people order from Internet-based retailers, both based in the UK (and Channel Islands) or from overseas.

If the HMV stores are around in another 5 years then I will be amazed. Personally, I think the time line for them closing will be much sooner than that. Maybe then the small, independant retailer will have a chance? Here's hoping!
